Hey Folks!

My computer has slowed down to crawl. I've run Adaware and Spybot, I've got AVG running, I've cleaned out my HD so there's at least 15% of it empty, I've used all the tools in Glary Utilities (defrag, disk cleanup, etc., etc.)…but nothing seems to help. I just learned about Hijack This, downloaded it, and ran it. Could someone help me decipher it? Here it is:

Heya BH!

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help me out with this! I followed your instructions precisely, but unfortunately, my system seems to be running about the same (I did a timed restart test before and after to see if there was any change). Here's the second Hijack This log:

Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks, again!

~Andrew
Hi general p,

Please do the following….

ComboFix

Please visit below webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. DO NOT select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix (located in C:\combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks, again, BH!

I hit a glitch, though…on this page:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

where it reads, "ComboFix will now automatically install the Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper."

This doesn't seem to happen when I drag the Windows file onto the Combo Fix icon…the message that I get is the following: "Open File - Security Warning" and then something like, "Are you sure you want to run this program?" (meaning Combo Fix). BTW: I can't find my Windows XP cds and I've done a search on my hard drive for the Recovery Console, but it hasn't yielded anything.
Heya BH!

OK…so here's the Combo Fix file:

Hi general p,

Please do the following…

Disable Teatimer

Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.

First:
*Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
*Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

Second:
*Open Spybot S&D
*Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
*Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
*If your firewall raises a question, say OK
*Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
*Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
*Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Once your log is clean you can re-enable those settings.

Fix with HijackThis

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = sas.r21.mchsi.com:8000
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrecisionTime] C:\PROGRA~1\PrecisionTime\PrecisionTime.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Date Manager] "C:\PROGRA~1\Date Manager\DateManager.exe"

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis (especially Internet Explorer!), then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

PrecisionTime
Date Manager

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "My Computer", or Hold down the Windows Key + E ), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\PrecisionTime
C:\Program Files\Date Manager
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{3276BE95_AF08_429F_A64F_CA64CB79BCF6}

If you have any trouble deleting the folders try it from safe mode..(Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.)

After that, Reboot, and post a new HijackThis log here in your reply.

  • Click on Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
