Hmm, I dont think I ever had one, media center was preloaded on I believe, or at least installation was disk free. Should I download the iso from microsoft and use it?

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

O1 - Hosts: AmsServer
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [kernel32.dll] C:\WINDOWS\system32\

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"



Please download HostsXpert from the link below.

http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip

Unzip HostsXpert.zip
Open HostsXpert.exe.

you have to click: ''make hosts writable'' in the top right corner, then press the ''restore MS hosts file'' option

Close program when complete.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

OK ill do that, ive just got to run off to work now. Windows file protection is still running in the background, only asked for cd a couple of times and is no longer asking. When i get back ill do the next steps Thanks heaps for your help

Heres something really weird, my computers background crashed and all of a sudden EVERYTHING works again. Everything that was wrong is somehow undone. I had just used hijack to delete the BHO thingy. Im gonna run a new hijack log just to see the difference then im gonna disable my background and restart.

Just restarted and everything looks A-Ok, yet i'm still wary, why would my active background cause these problems? Sure the pic I had there was a really large size and once the active desktop crashed and windows did that active desktop recovery thing, why would that fix it. Any thoughts? And should I still download HostsXpert? If not whats the best way to quarantine my comp so I can feel safe using passwords on it again :P Put my wallpaper back up and its still working. Odd….

Sure the pic I had there was a really large size and once the active desktop crashed and windows did that active desktop recovery thing, why would that fix it.

Any thoughts?

And should I still download HostsXpert?

If not whats the best way to quarantine my comp so I can feel safe using passwords on it again :P

I'm at real work right now but will check in later.
download HostsXpert and run it as instructed.

Yeah that was part of the active desktop.
I was trying to ad a feature to show up the time on the desktop.

I decided to remove it, but while in "Display" explorer.exe crashed and now I everything is broken again.

It seems to have something to do with explorer, the desktop and my windows programs.
