Let me know how that goes.

good luck mschroe919
Hi dschroe919,

I updated spybot from 1.5.2 to 1.6. Some problems occurred in the installation and I had to hit the ignore button a couple of times. Also, when I ran it their were multiple messages that it couldn't look in a directory. It did come up with a spyware to delete.

Here is the malware log. I ran it from the version I saved to my desktop previously. I hope that's ok.

I don't think we're quite there yet as the wrong explorer home page popped up again.

Thanks,

Good morning dresin

Before you do the following combofix;

Please download this :

flash cleaner

be sure to plug in any usb devises you have been using such as thumb drives
flash cards, when you start the clean up.

NEXT:

1. Please open Notepad

Click Start , then Run

Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\pmfck.sys
G:\ .exe

driver::
pmfck

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{93b51a36-ac27-11dc-ade6-0011d830532e}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{f40d59c0-b26c-11dc-adef-0011d830532e}]

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt to desktop

4. Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.

5. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
[external image: Posted Image]
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. ComboFix will automatically REBOOT your machine when the KillAll:: switch is used..

7. Next, re-enable all the programs that you disabled prior to running ComboFix.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

8. Post the following logs/Reports:

good luk mschroe919
Hello mschroe919,

I couldn't download the flash cleaner from your message. But I noticed that it came from tech support forum so I went there and downloaded flash disinfect from a forum. I hope that was ok.

Got some exception processing messages while running combofix.

I think the computer may be running better as the home page didn't change on internet explorer.

Anyway, here are the logs:

Thank you!
dresin

PS. At some point, could you make some suggestions about how to prevent this in the future?
Hi dresin,

Well you did it pat yourself on the back. your log looks clean.

Please do this :

[external image: Posted Image]

How is your pc doing now ?
did you run the flash drive cleaner with your thumbs drives in?
the worm virus you had was trying to affect everything.

Here is my canned all clean speech which helps keep you clean and running.

I see that your log is clean. You did great cleaning it up,
pat yourself on the back.
As I said there would be more …..here
this is my canned all clean speech.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Note you may have some of theses programs allready, if so just a reminder to keep updated.

FIRST:
You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.
===================================================================
NEXT:
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
2. Change theDownload unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
3. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
====================================================================

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky.com/buyonline.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata….jsp?lid=nav_za

Sunbelt Kerio:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm

OutPost:
http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpostfree/download.php
================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
Happy surfing the net

I only ask one thing….please
Please post back and let us know what you think about our forum, we are all volunteers and would like a little smile.

Good luck and happy net surfing
Mschroe919

PS

we went this far I think just to play it safe knowing the nature of the beast,
We should do a online scan from:

Kapersky scan

This will tell us for sure where we stand so please let me bother you for this.
when you get done with it do the above what you can then send me a copy of the Kapersky
scan and another HJT log.
Then I think we both can rest easy.
mschroe919
Hi mschroe919,

Windows couldn't find ComboFix/u.

I don't have a flash drive/thumb drive.

Printer is working now and no problems with the home page for explorer.

However, two problems remain. First, I can't get on the internet unless I'm in safe networking mode. Second, the shut down command didn't work. The computer kind of freezes - I say kind of because I can still move the cursor but nothing else works. I have to shut it off with the switch.

Here is the Kaspersky scan:

Thank you,

Good morning

Windows couldn't find ComboFix/u.

retype it, be sure to pay attention to the space (between fix and /u) ComboFix /u

For internet try this:

IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server"

As far as this:

C:\QooBox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe.vir Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.agjv 1 >>this just whats in his Quarantine box?

good luck
let me know how you do here
mschroe919
Hi mschroe919, Yes, that space made all the difference in uninstalling combofix! "use a proxy server was not checked" so I'm still at a loss on using internet explorer outside of safe mode. I have no idea what the Qoo Box is. As you know, I have several anti-spyware programs. Perhaps it belongs to one of them (super antispyware, adaware, spybot search and destroy, avast anti-virus, spyware blaster)? Still having multiple problems so it's strange that the logs look clean. By the way, I've continued to use hjt in the "sniper" file so I'm hoping that something's not hiding from it. Thanks again for all your help. I really do appreciate it! dresin
Hi dresin

Lets do this next:

Open a command prompt….from the Start menu, select Run > In the box/"open field", enter cmd.exe

enter ipconfig /flushdns press 'enter'

This shows a successful DNS Flush

let me know how you do

Hello mschroe919 Action successfully completed. My screen looks just like the image you sent Re-checked my situation. Still can't get on the internet via explorer unless I'm in safe mode and I can't use my printer (I get a message from the "hardware wizard" that it can't install the new hardware). Thank you for your persistence! dresin
Good morning

ComboFix will disconnect the machine from the internet, this prevents fresh malware from coming in.
The connection shall be restored once ComboFix gets to the Find3M stage.
In the event that ComboFix terminates prematurely you can manually restore the connection by …
* Going to Control Panel > Network Connections.
* Right click on their Network icons & select "Repair"

Alternately, if the Network icon appears in the notification area in the lower right corner of Desktop, right-click it, and then click Repair from the shortcut menu.

Hello mschroe919 Tried the repair but no change in internet access. Do you think we're clean and just need to repair damage done by the virus or combofix? thanks, dresin
Hi
yes I believe that all we need to do is fix the damage

Lets try this:

You can check in services to see if Remote Procedure (call RPC) is set to automatic…

type services.msc in the run box to pull up the window, then scroll down to Remote Procedure

let me know
