Something new… I checked the driver and reinstalled it. Computer indicated an internet connection, flashed a blue error screen (so fast I couldn't see it) and then restarted. Computer is going through the restart process again…
OK, started the computer in safe mode, shut off auto restart, restarted with internet connectect. Received blue screen with the following message: *** STOP: 0x000001E (OxC0000005, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contat you system administrator or technical support group Now what? :smack:
I did the Winsockfix. No luck there.

I noticed that KB article and I wanted to check the files.

I also noticed there was a subsequent "Roll Up" update for Service Pack 4, which I have downloaded and installed.

The computer will start normally without the ethernet or wireless USB connected. Its only with the internet connected do I get the blue screen. If I plug in the internet I get the blue screen.

I am going to check the files against names and dates and such…maybe I should uninstall the service packs and then reinstall them? Can I do such a thing and would it work to strip the OS down and then basically rebuild it?

A reinstall of this OS is not an option. I received the computer second hand and it did not come with OS disks.

Perhaps an upgrade to XP Home is in order?
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks
Same old blue screen when I attempt to attach an internet connection. Otherwise everything is fine. I checked the hardware, no conflicts or exclamation points next to any items (especially the network adapter). All updates, fixes, roll outs, etc have been applied. Ideas?
Run the following commands: Click Start> Run> Copy/Paste each, one at a time Run each line individually. After each run, you should see a short message stating the command was successful. regsvr32 Urlmon.dll regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll regsvr32 Shell32.dll regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll regsvr32 Mshtml.dll Reboot Computer.
If you download and double click on this small app, it will restore all the default search fuctions for IE.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg

Save it to your desktop.

Right click on the file IEFIX.reg and select Merge.

If that doesn't work, see if you have this file:
C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\ie.inf

Right Click on ie.inf and select install.

I'm not sure W2K has this location. If not search for ie.inf
iefix.reg did not work. Still get the blue screen with the same error message. When I try to do ie.inf it asks me for the Windows 2000 Professional CD, which I do not have as this is a second hand computer. Ideas?
Per your request…
