[Resolved] Lag issues and latency problems

I have extreme lag issues when doing most anything. At first I thought it was the game I was playing, but now I am not so sure. My ISP has done everything they could do, and say it is not an issue with them. I am wondering if there is anything you guys could do to help me out. I also got four error messages when I was downloading Hijack this. I clicked through them, and I hope it all worked

Hello kitzie

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum, I am not looking at anything earth shattering on your HJT log. What I am seeing is that you have Mcafee Anti Virus installed but Panda AV is still trying to start up everytime you boot your computer. Have you just recently uninstalled Panda?? Having two AV programs will really drain your system resources.

Lets do a few things and if there is no malware present I can link you to some windows support sites that deal with slow computers.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.



Your HJT program is outdated, drag it to the trash and download and install the latest version by Trendmicro, but don't post a log yet.

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis to your desktop.
  • Double click it to install
  • Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe





  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.

thanks for getting back so quickly. No, I am not using Panda at all, not sure why it is there.
I ran the a ATF cleaner and am sending the logs from the RSIT. Boy, that is alot of info….

I was looking for a Panda uninstall but don't see one, don't know why even RSIT showed an entry for Panda but I don't see it fully installed.

What I would suggest doing is running an online virus scanner, they may take awhile, but post the entire log for me to see.


Run this free online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Post the log along with a New HJT Log into your next reply.

:thumbup: OK, I have some work to do on the computer tonight, so I will let that run when I am finished., and will post it probably in the am. My computer is running even slower at the moment. Dont know if that was due to running the ATF cleaner or not. Hope we can get this resolved, but good to know nothing too serious is going on, I think :) thanks later

I went to the site to run the free virus scan from Kaspersky. :It started downloading the files, and then said ready to scan. then a windows internet explorert error message popped up..saying starting java applet has failed…. please go online to use this program. what exactly do i do now? thanks.

Your Java is up to date but sometimes this scan gives people fits, lets run this other one by NOD

Please run this free online virus scanner from ESET
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is ticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Hello,

I see ESET removed an entry for FunWebProducts, lets run this scan to remove anymore of it it finds

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.<– Don't forget this
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

I downloaded mbam. and went to install it. It goes for a bit and then says windows is trying to install destinations. Then a box pops up with error message 1706 saying No valid source could be found for product Destinations The windows installer cannot continue… not sure what to do at this point

Try installing it in Safemode with Network Support and then you can get updates

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
    this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with Network Support
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
