Can someone please help me get rid of the W32.SillyFDC and VBS.Autorun viruses. I have Spybot and Norton 360, but my thumb drive does not work due to these viruses. I thought I had gotten rid of the W32.SillyFDC virus when it first popped up on 8 SEP 08. It came up again on 12 SEP 08 and then again 27 SEP 08 twice. The VBS.Autorun also came up for the first time yesterday and now it will not allow my thumb drive to work.

I am deployed in Afghanistan and need assistance in removing these viruses so I can do the work I need to and to be able to send reports that are on my thumb drive.

Here is the HijackThis log for the scan I just did.

Hi Airborne Vol

Welcome to the What the tech Forums
My name is mschroe919 and I am going to read your log.
I would like to help you So if you would….
Please be patient and I will be back as soon as possible.

Before we start please do the following
While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

* Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
* In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
* Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
* Expand the "Tools" menu.
* Click "Resident".
* Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
* In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

NEXT:

Please while I am gone do these steps:

Show hidden files, Here is how:

Windows XP

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

NEXT:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Download it

PS Go Airborne
I had a friend who gave me AVG Anti Virus and then helped me out as he is a computer network security guy here on our base and he was able to rid the virus and set me up so I should not get any more. Thanks!
