baggin3,

Very good. Now we've got it on the run.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
Okay. I got Java installed, but when I did a Kaspersky scan I ran into the same problem. I ran the scan 3 times. The first one stopped at 32%, the 2nd at 38% and the third at 14%. Here is the Hijack this report, I still couldnt get a report from Kaspersky for the failed scans. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

baggin3,

Your logs look good but I don't like the way your machine is acting. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'd like you to try this scan instead:

Lets run an F-Secure online scan it will scan for Viruses, Spyware and RootKits:
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Start Scanning button. A window will pop up.
  • Allow the Active X control to be installed on your computer, then click the Accept button
  • Click Full System Scan and allow the components to download and the scan to complete.
  • If malware is found, check Submit samples to F-Secure then select Automatic cleaning
  • When cleaning has finished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)
Highlight and Copy (CTRL + C) the complete report, and Paste (CTRL + V) in a new reply to this post
If Automatic cleaning with Submit samples hangs, click Cancel, then New Scan
  • When the cleaning option is presented, Uncheck Submit samples to F-Secure
  • Click Automatic cleaning
  • When cleaning has finished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)
  • Highlight and Copy (CTRL + C) the complete report, and Paste (CTRL + V) in a new reply to this post with a new Hijackthis log.

Note: This scan will only work with Internet Explorer.
You must be logged on a administrator rights to run this scan.
The scan may take a few hours.

If this scan doesn't work, and only if it doesn't work (these scans take a long time), try this one:

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.

Also please describe how your computer is acting now.
Scanned seemed to work fine. No hang ups. My computer now seems better. When I go search the internet I dont get as many popups and its definitly a lot faster and loads the pages quicker. Havent noticed anything else wrong either, but would definitly like to rid the system of anything else that may still be infecting it. Thanks.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls

Keep Microsoft Windows Updated - This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. The easiest way to do this is to turn on Automatic Updates. Do this by:
  • From your desktop, right-click on My Computer,
  • click on Properties
  • Select the Automatic Updates tab
  • Click on Automatic
  • Click on Apply button
  • Click on OK to exit.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, until there are no more critical updates.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Download and install the free version of WinPatrol - This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software.
Winpatrol

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
Hey thanks for all your help. I did everything that you listed, installed all the programs. The only issue I was having was with my firewall I downloaded. I downloaded the free version of Outpost, but it wouldnt let me load up any web pages on Internet Explorer. I tried adding it to the allowed section but that didnt seem to work, so I had to disable it just to get on to post this. Any ideas on how to have it running and allow me access to the Internet would be appricated. Everything does seem to be working pretty smoothly though. Much better, doesnt seem to be infected anymore. Thanks so much for your help in all this. I grately appricate it. I was wondering. Should I delete HijackThis and/or LopSD? Other than that though, I definitly consider this resolved if you think so as well. Again thank you so much.
baggin3,

Hey thanks for all your help.

No problem. Glad I could help.

Any ideas on how to have it running and allow me access to the Internet would be appricated.

Fortunately, there are some people on the tech forum that know much more about this than I do. I'd suggest that you post a question here and I would be very surprised if someone couldn't give you some additional instruction.

Should I delete HijackThis and/or LopSD?

As there is risk involved for using these tools without guidance, I'd suggest that you delete them.

Good Luck and be Well.
