I have a computer here that I scanned with Avira and removed quite a few viruses. After removing some I was unable to connect to the internet. I pinged www.google.com and got a reply so I know the system can see outside.

I found Antivirus 2009 which I read was also a virus. I removed that but I'm not sure if I got it all. Here is my HJT log:

Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Using another computer and transfer this using a flash/pen drive

Download Lspfix. Extract(unzip) it to its own folder.
Disconnect from the internet, and close all browser windows. Run LSPFix.
Click the "I know what I'm doing" button. In the left hand pane, hilite all instances of
mmchost.dll (and nothing else),
move them to the "Remove" pane and by clicking the >> button. Click Finish. Reboot to complete the process.

This should/may restore your internet.
If it doessn't continue using the other machine and transfer the program I ask you to download that way.

Thank you for your time! That was a friend's computer and I'll let them know they have a pirated version of XP. I don't currently have access to their computer so I can't post another scan log, but thanks for the work you provided so far! I really appreciate it. Three cheers for you guys!
