Hi Everyone! :wavey:

I am a newbie who seems to be bitten by something, but have no clue….Could someone please, please, please take a look at the hijack this log and tell me what they think? It constantly sounds like stuff is running in th background, and when shutting down, it says there are programs still running, even though nothing is open.. :pullhair: ..Much obliged! :notworthy:

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi LDTate!

I did the stuff you asked and below are the logs. Also, in response to your question as how it is acting now….Seems ok, don't hear stuff running in the background BUT it still says there are programs running when shutting down, even though I don't have anything open. One is ccSvcHst and the other it says is DnsAgnt.exe….Thoughts?

Also, just one more question, were any of those adware things tracker bugs? (meaning did they track my keystrokes?) I am always so careful with what websites I open and use…..but I guess they still got me. Also, if I continue using this malware scan, it should help in the future right?

Thanks so much for volunteering, definitely getting a donation from me.

Do you mean Dsagnt.exe?

Ccsvchst.exe is the executable file that belongs to Symantec Service Framework from Symantec Corporation and is added to your system when you install Norton

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
——————————————————————–
  • Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
——————————————————————–

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.
One more thing….documents just showed up on our desktop after running these scans, and I have no idea what they are…Thumbs.db…Thoughts on that? I don't want to open it.

One more thing….documents just showed up on our desktop after running these scans, and I have no idea what they are…Thumbs.db…Thoughts on that? I don't want to open it.

That's because we have hidden files viewable. Leave them alone. We'll take care of it later.

See my last post?
Hello! Ok, I ran the ATF cleaner, combofix, and HT. Below are logs.

"Do you mean Dsagnt.exe?"
I probably do, it pops up so fast, that I had to guess….It didn't do it on this last reboot…

"Ccsvchst.exe is the executable file that belongs to Symantec Service Framework from Symantec Corporation and is added to your system when you install Norton"
Should I uninstall and reinstall to remedy this?

"Ccsvchst.exe is the executable file that belongs to Symantec Service Framework from Symantec Corporation and is added to your system when you install Norton"
Should I uninstall and reinstall to remedy this?

I doubt that will help. We have the same problem at work, here's their reply.

That's known and under investigation to determine a possible solution

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Dsagent

Support Agent offers additional support and update features for your Dell.

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Note: I no longer suggest Zone Alarm

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • Winpatrol

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
