I need help bad as I just signed up for college classes online last week. My computer is doing strange things. I'm getting notice that my AOL will be disconnected if I don't click on the "OK" button. Today I noticed I got the message and I wasn't even signed on to AOL I had signed off atleast 20 minutes before receiving the message. I was trying to send an assignment in to my instructor last night and it just froze up for about 15 minutes. I then shut the pc down and restarted it. I then was able to get back online but it froze again when I was trying to send the info in. I got an all white screen for about 10 minutes then I restarted again. I got a "runtime error" message. I also got a virtual memory message. I got a message saying the administrator had done something to the task manager. I haven't been able to get my correct desktop for over a period of 6 months. It is still saying that it is inactive due to something that I may have downloaded. It ask me to click on something to restore it back to the correct one but it never changes back. For the most part, I think that is the real issues for now. Ofcourse there could be more than I'm aware of. But I would be grateful if someone can get back to me as soon as possible as I have 4 papers to do by Monday, Arizona time 11:59pm. Thanks, Denise

This doesn't sound like an spyware/malware issue but lets see what we find.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

It seems to be somewhat quicker. I haven't noticed anything else.
Lets dig deeper now.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
——————————————————————–
  • Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
——————————————————————–

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.
I can't figure out what it is I did wrong. I got this message twice when I did the combofix. C:\32782R2FWSFW\pv.cfexe is not a valid Win32.application. And then Spyware Doctor said something about cmb.exe was being blocked and something about a Trojan.PWS>Bancos?
Try it like this:

  • Save it to your Desktop
  • Now physically disconnect from the internet and STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields)
  • Click on your START button and choose Run. Then copy/paste the entire content of the following quotebox (Including the "" marks and the Symbols) into the run box.

Go to [external image: Posted Image] -> Run -> copy/paste in the following single line command & click OK

    "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Click OK and this will start ComboFix in a special way.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to a Notepad File to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log.

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

* After you have saved the logs, restart your system to re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix.

* Reconnect to the internet

* Post the following logs/Reports:
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Fresh HijackThis log run after all the other tools have performed their cleanup.
I tried this but I got a message saying that Combofix isn't on my computer. And when I just posted this message it was acting like it didn't want to post. I took my pc 7 minutes to completely reboot also when I attempted to download combofix before this. Denise

I see a icon that says SmithfraudFix.

That's not it.

I'm so sorry this is taking so long or the fact that I must be doing something wrong. I keep getting the same Win32 message. I attempted to disable Spyware Doctorf and my firewall. Spyware Doctor keep giving me the message that cmd.exe is attempting to access a file. Threat:High Trojan.PWS.Bancos. I don't get a log either.
SpywareDoctor

Spyware Doctor's OnGuard protective functionality may interfere with certain HijackThis fixes we need to make. Please follow these instructions to disable it:

To deactivate Spyware Doctor's OnGuard Tools

1. From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
2. Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

You can reenable it once your system is clean.

Now try combofix again
On the other night I had deleted Spyware Doctor , turned my Firewall off, deleted temp files, cookies, and browsing history. Then came back here and clicked on the CombFix link above. This morning I re-installed Spyware Doctor, kept my Firewall off, deleted temp files, cookies, and browsing history. Both times I got this result, "Can't rename ComboRix as ComboFix [1]. Please use another name, preferably made up of alphanumeric characters.
