My computer has been really slow lately. I have already defragmented and used disk clean up. IE has script errors frequently, even if I am not using it a box will pop up asking if I want to stop running the script. While on the internet the page will continuously wait for an ad server and will not load. TIA for any help.

Hello amberks

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum, sorry about the delay, but the amount of people posting with infected computers is through the roof and sometimes we can't get to logs as fast as we would like to.

I am not looking at anything earthshattering on your log but I do see your running TWO Anti Virus programs Authentium, Inc. and Verizon Internet Security, most times 2 AVs will slow down a system quite a bit and can also give you other issues as well. Your call but you need to uninstall one of them via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel

Run this quick scan and lets see if there is anything hiding we can't see.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<info.txt (<
ok, i do not have an "Authentium, INC" program in my add/remove programs list. The only one running that I know of is the Verizon one. will post the logs in a bit.
Take your time, I will be away this afternoon and returning early evening.

Do this also please

Open Hijackthis
  • Go to Misc Tools> Open Uninstall Manager.
  • Click on Save List.
  • The list will open in Notepad.
  • Copy and Paste the List into this thread
Here ya go. Thanks so much!! ^_^

Hello,

Authentium AntiVirus SDK - 2 <— This was on your Add Remove list , your call to remove it but you don't need two AVs.

C:\Program Files\LimeWire <=== This should up on your RSIT log although I don't see it installed. Read this please.

P2P (File Sharing ) programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P program is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realise. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured program.

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

The rest of your logs look fine, I am not looking at any malware or viruses on them. Try uninstalling Authentium AntiVirus SDK and see if it makes a difference.

Let me know if any of the above helped
I ran a search for limewire and nothing was there. I can't find anything else on it. Someone suggested I download it, and I soon learned the mistake I made and removed it from the add/remove list. What should I do now? The Authentium is not in my add/remove programs list, but I did find it in a search and I can't remove it. It says that it is in use and is unable to complete the task. What do I do about that? I will complete the ATF cleaner and Java update today, but should I uninstall all Java applications or just the updates?
Hello,

Authentium AntiVirus SDK - 2 <– This is on the Add Remove list you posted. Try uninstalling it in Safemode.

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

Just follow the instructions I left for updating Java, what you will remove are just prior updates that are not needed , your not removing any applications.

Ken :)
