Hi all,
I suddenly got a stop error on my AVIRA Antivir, followed by a command prompt after the program went down showing "1 file extracted"

I quickly reopened Antivir, and got SuperAntiSpyware up and running.

SAS caught about 19 items, I quarantined and rebooted. I then ran Malwarebytes which caught nothing.

Before I finished SAS, it was attempting to change my homepage to "softwarereferral.com" but that quit after 1st reboot.

Currently, I have VIRUS ALERT! over my clock in the taskbar and I have no admin priveledges including task manager.

below is my HJT log file.

Thank you for taking the time to help! I appreciate your efforts.
Tom

Sorry about the delay in responding :(

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thanks LDTate for the response. Below is my log. Currently after taking the "self help" steps on your site, I think I have minimized the damage. However every day Avira notifies me of an attempt or a file with malicious intent. This morning I received the notification that a file has the markings of TR/AGENT/53760.0 Trojan.

Any additional help is greatly appreciated
Tom

  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
——————————————————————–

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish
Thanks LDTate! My computer is slowly returning to its original state, but I still get certain detections (sometimes the same ones 3 or 4 times a day with Avira and it continues to quarantine them but they regenerate. The file I currently remember is ICO. I will make an effort to get a screen shot, or write it down next time.
Below is my HJT log and Combofix log. Thanks for your continued support.
Tom

Computer is working better than recently but I continue to get the VUNDO identified in random files that I quarantined.

Empty your anti-virus quarantine folder.

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Note: I no longer suggest Zone Alarm

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • Winpatrol

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
