Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Thank you for your time and assistance. I've followed your instructions to the letter. The only change that I've noted is my home page changed from http:\\att.my.yahoo.com to http:\\www.msn.com. There is no change in the speed. Below are the resulting logs that you requested.

Click start > Run > in the empty edit box copy&paste this line :

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

Read the disclaimer and click OK.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Place a checkmark next to the following entries in case they appear:

.cpl
.cpl
.reg
.scr
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Re-scan and save a logfile. By default, it will save as daft.txt
  • I'll need that log later.
If everything is ok again, it should display the "all associations ok message"

Deckards system scanner also shows your only running only 128. Mb's of Ram. Was good enough back in the day but it is seriously on the low side by todays standards.

Post back with the contents of daft.txt.

I don't expect to see much but I would like to see the Blacklight log I had asked for in the last post.

After that I can call you all clean and give a small bit of advice on speeding things up a bit and point you towards a good page on such issues.
Bob, Again, I thank you for your assistance and expertise. Please find the requested logs posted below. Great news ! [external image: Posted Image]

Your log appears to be clean.

Delete the Deckards system scanner …Blacklight (fsbl.exe) from your desktop.

I do not think your speed issue is Malware related.

If your going to keep this computer for a while I would look into bumping the Memory (Ram) up to 512 Mbs or even 1 gigabyte (1024 Megabytes) Memory for older machines is fairy inexpensive these days.

If you have recently added a new program and /or updated a driver this could also be a cause.

An extremely knowledgeable malware fighter has a nice write up on
slow computers and how to help them. I couldn't add anything to it so go have a read there.
Pay particular attention to the program start up section. You have quite a few that do not need to be running.
Please be certain that your antivirus program and your modem are left running. (BCMSMMSG.exe) is your modem.

Also take the time to look around this forums topics. Lot's of good advice that may help also.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help but am glad it wasn't malware.
