[Closed] Strange Slowness

Alot of my programs have been running really slowly, like for example, Windows Word will not start up for 5 minutes, and things like Notepad or Calculator take a minute to get started. Norton Internet Security no longer starts up when the computer starts, and when I double click its icon it says it cannot start. CTRL + ALT + DEL does not open Task Manager anymore, in fact, I can't get it to open… However some things like AIM and Internet Explorer and Hearts and some other things run at normal speed. I honestly don't know what's wrong and to make matters worse, HJT won't open either!
Hello Desucopter and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Please do not run any other tool until instructed to do so!
Please reply to this thread, do not start another!
Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

: Download and Run DSS :

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<- this one will be minimized.
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your reply.

:information and logs:

In your next post I need the following

1.let me have the DSS log if it runs.

Gringo

Hello

I see where you have run some tools on your own can you please let me know what you have run and when.

I also see that you have two antivirus installed even tho one is disabled it is still not a good idea if you are not going to use avg you should uninstall it.

:run combofix:

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Please continue as follows:

  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the report in your next post:

C:\ComboFix.txt

:information and logs:

In your next post I need the following

1.let me have the combofix log
2.try to do the hijackthis log now

Gringo
I ran a program called DSS.exe that I got from another spyware help site, as well as something called "Brute Force Uninstaller" in co-junction with it. I also downloaded AVG on their advice to do a scan… unfortunately AVG does not work too well on my computer and I will un-install it. I will run Combofix as soon as I get the time, thank you for all your help thus far.
Hello Desucopter

I am still waiting on the combofix log

five day bump

It has been five days since my last post.

  • do you still need help with this?
  • do you need more time?
  • are you having problems following my instructions?
  • if after 48hrs you have not replied to this thread then it will have to be closed!

Gringo
Hello Desucopter I seen that you came on last night so I will leave this open a couple more days in hope that you reply Gringo
Sorry about the lack of reply, I have been extremely busy with personal matters this last week. Word no longer loads slowly, nor do most of the other applications. norton now opens properly, although HJT is another story. Task manager still will not open.
