Hi,

I have searched Google to remove kavo, tavo malware and I came across this site. I believed I got kavo.exe., tavo.exe, tt.exe., and 2.exe error messages from home computer through a thumb drive. I have had those for 3-4 months ago. My bf tried the usual way to rid of spyware…I don't know what he did (it worked for previous spywares) but those error messages still pop up. Two weeks ago, I backed up my stuffs and reformatted my laptop. There wasn't any problem until my brother was using my laptop again with the same thumb drive just a few days ago. I searched my laptop and thumb drive with Norton with latest virus update; it detected some infected files (i quarantined those and delete those) but seems like it can't get rid of the malwares. Does that mean the stuffs that I backed up on to the external hhd would also have the virus/trojan? Please help because this is driving me nuts…It seems reformatting is the only option…but what about my files in the external hhd?

I have followed someone's forum from this site and dled hijackthis program.

here's my log:

My laptop is doing fine. The pop ups are very inconsistent. Earlier in the day when I turned on the computer, tt.exe. and kavo.exe. error msgs popped up. I turned the computer off and turned it on again and this time 2.exe. error msg popped up. Those error msgs pop up right after windows start up. Yes, I am keeping the usb drive away from the laptop. I also reformatted the home computer a few days ago with attempt to rid the kavo, tavo, tt, 2.exe. How can I get rid of the virus from the usb drive? How can I be sure that the stuffs that I backed up into external hhd are not infected? Thank you again for your help!

How can I get rid of the virus from the usb drive?

We'll worry about this later.

How can I be sure that the stuffs that I backed up into external hhd are not infected?

You can scan it with an anti-virus program, but there is no 100% guarantee with computers i'm afraid. We'll worry about this later too.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Ensure a checkmark is placed next to both Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version - you'll need to clear it with your firewall.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan and then Scan.
  • When the scan has finished, click OK and then Show Results to view the results - no surprise there!
  • If MBAM finds anything, check the box(es) and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
Let me have the MBAM log, a fresh HJT log (run in Normal Mode) AND a description of how your PC is behaving.
Thanks, Noviciate. I'm wondering what do you mean run the HJT log in normal mode? Did I not do it right previously? Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is currently scanning my C drive. I wasn't sure if scanning D (memory stick) and E (Dvd player) drives were needed. IE is running a bit slow, but that could be my imagination. It could very well just be a facebook problem; a particular fb page was processing very slowly. My laptop has hardly anything on it cuz I just recently reformatted it. However, no pop ups when I turned on the laptop. Surprisingly Norton didn't pop up a virus alert today. This is all I can think of to describe how PC is behaving. Let me know if you are looking for something else.
MBAM just finished scanning. It took 22 mins, but it didn't find anything bad. Did combofix already remove the viruses? Here's the MBAM log: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.19 Database version: 927 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 2:13:34 PM 7/6/2008 mbam-log-7-6-2008 (14-13-34).txt Scan type: Full Scan (C:\|) Objects scanned: 89815 Time elapsed: 22 minute(s), 34 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected)

Thanks, Noviciate. I'm wondering what do you mean run the HJT log in normal mode? Did I not do it right previously?

Normal Mode as opposed to Safe Mode. A HJT log in Safe Mode isn't as informative as one in Normal Mode due to the limited boot-up.
I don't write these instructions each time I post them, they are just a series of text files on my PC that I use as appropriate, so don't take it to mean you did something wrong, it's just what everybody gets.

I'm assuming then that the PC is generally behaving itself as far as the pop-ups are concerned, so we'll give the PC a little attention and see if that helps things along:

The following steps will serve as a spring clean for your PC. Not all of them will be of benefit to your PC as this is a general post, but the overall effect should be positive.

1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs that you no longer use and then reboot your PC.

2) Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.

When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Please Note: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only.

3) Double click My Computer.
Right click the disc drive you wish to check.
Click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools Tab.
Under Error-checking, click the Check Now button.
In the "Check Disc Local Disk (C:)" dialog box, check both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, and then click Start.

This will look for and attempt to repair any errors that your hard drive has.

4) Defragment your hard drive. A tutorial for disc defragmentation is available here.

5) Download and run StartUp Inspector.
This program will help you to decide exactly what programs you disable from running at startup.
The Readme.txt file included has instructions on how to use it.

Let me know how the PC is behaving at the end of this, and we'll look at the flash drive next.
I followed all the steps and PC is working really fast. I seriously think that was the fastest it had ever gotten. It didn't really defragment that much because I just recently reformatted before I got the viruses. I'm wondering how can kavo.exe., tavo.exe., tt.exe., and 2.exe be so prevalent for almost everyone to get it? I know my brother and I are pretty careful online. What kind of damage do those viruses do? I hope they don't have my pws even tho I don't have them saved on computer. Actually my brother used the flash drive to another desktop computer before he did it to my laptop but it didn't infect the desktop…i think. There were no pop ups and we think it's because that old desktop uses IE 6.0. I think these viruses only infect the computers that are using IE 7.0 version? Thanks for the help again. I'll be awaiting your instruction on the troublesome flash drive and the possible infectious external hhd. -Cindy
1) Download this file and save it to your Desktop.

2) Create a Restore Point - this is standard procedure before making any registry changes.
A tutorial for System Restore is available here.

3) Copy the contents of the following box into Notepad. (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
Make sure that you have no blank lines at the beginning, and one blank line at the end:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{3b540bcc-4876-11dd-9ad8-0013026a44f1}]

Save it to your Desktop with the following name, including the quotation marks:
File Name: "Regfix.reg"

4) Locate Regfix.reg on your Desktop and double click it.
Click on Yes in the confirmation window.

Should you have any unexpected problems after this fix, run System Restore selecting the Restore Point you have just created, and things should be back to normal.

5) Download and run TweakUI by Microsoft.
Once it's installed, run it - it will be under Power Toys for Windows XP in Start >All Programs.
Click the + sign to the left of My Computer and then Autoplay and finally click on Drives. At the top it should say Enable Autoplay on Drives - uncheck the F: Drive box. Click Apply and close the window.
In theory this should stop any malicious files being automatically run from the flashdrive.

6) Double click the flashdrive disinfector tool you downloaded in step one and let it run.

7) Open the flashdrive using Windows Explorer or My Computer and delete every file you find in there.

That should be that - fingers crossed. You can recheck the Autoplay box you unchecked earlier if you wish now, or not as you see fit.

Let me know how you get on.
So I followed your steps (I also did it to my own flash drive). It went fine until all the steps were done (I deleted all the files and even formatted the flashdrive) and I decided to check if the flashdrive (the one that infected the computers) is actually ok by insert it normally without Flash Disinfector running in the background. When I only open My Computer window, Norton went haywired and popped up bsv.dll and jxsfsf.dll virus alerts on the computer. I ran Norton and it quarantined those two. I restarted my laptop and tavo.exe and ckvo.exe. error msgs popped up after windows started. I decided to do system restore back to the restore point Ii made before the flashdrive business. It worked…no error msgs or anything else, and I figured I should check if my own flash drive is alright. I also deleted all the files and formatted my flashdrive during the steps that you gave me. So I repeated the process and found that this time bsv.dll, jxsfsf.dll, and 98hgb.dll Norton virus alerts popped up when I access the flashdrive (double click the F:). I did Norton full system scan and it didn't find any infected files. I restarted the computer and there's isn't any tavo or ckvo error msgs but bsv.dll, jxsfsf.dll, and 98hgb.dll Norton virus alerts still popped up. I know that was a bit confusing. I did all the steps you gave but I wanted to see if the flashdrives were actually ok and cleaned. I havent done system restore to the point I created after the second flashdrive. I think we have went back to square one, even though there weren't any tavo/ckvo error msgs. I can definitely reformat the laptop again…but I just wouldn't know how I can clean out my flashdrives. My bf thinks bsv.dll, jxsfsf.dll, and 98hgb.dll are viruses/trojans on the computer and Norton stopped it from transferred it to flashdrives, so he thinks the flashdrives are clean. He's going to check my flashdrives on his desktop computer to see if that's true. He just recently reformatted that desktop anyway so he can just reformat it if those flashdrives really are infected. I'll let you know what happens.
Hi, Turned out my bf didn't get to do anything with my flashdrives because his desktop might not be cleaned… He tried to get Norton to scan the computer but the computer wouldn't update the virus definitions. Sorry for the late notice until now. Let me know if there's anything that I can clean the flashdrives…
To be honest, I don't have any idea what happened to your PC. I would have expected reformatting to clean the flashdrive, but it appears that it didn't. I suggest you don't use that particular flash drive at the minute, at least until I can come up with a better plan than last time.

I restarted the computer and there's isn't any tavo or ckvo error msgs but bsv.dll, jxsfsf.dll, and 98hgb.dll Norton virus alerts still popped up.

Has Norton dealt with these files, or does it regularly show whatever pop-ups it shows?
