[Resolved] Darksma

About three days ago, my computer started out with a bunch of pop-ups and slow internet. I used Anti-Spy from yahoo to see what the problem may have been. I got a downloader with 2 files called Darksma. I scanned McAfee and was not sure if it found it, but what ever it found it seemed to have destroyed it. The downloader was still there though. I used Spybot S&D as well. That didn't seem to do it either.

I need to please know which ones out of these i should fix with Hijack This. My computer has been having many popups including very slow internet. I had to use a different computer to post this because mine wont load any site.

I would like to help you So if you would….
Please be patient and I will be back as soon as possible.
Before we get started please do this first:
While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

* Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
* In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
* Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
* Expand the "Tools" menu.
* Click "Resident".
* Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
* In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
NEXT:
Defender
We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Windows Defender.
QUOTE
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
Please while I am gone do these steps:

Show hidden files, Here is how:

Windows XP

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop:

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
post a new scanner[HJT] log and the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log

Be sure not to delete anything intill said ok to. also don't run any other cleanup programs till we
get done it may goof ours up.
Also if you have any questions feel fre to ask first.

When you post another rhjt log and the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log , let me know how your PC is behavuing

Thanks for the good start. So, so far i did everything you wanted me to do and followed all your steps making sure i did not mess up myself. The only problem i got to was when i scanned with Malwarebytes. When i finished my scan, i did what you wanted me to do but messed up a little. When i pressed to remove the files it removed them all and popped up a box saying that there were two items that were not removed, and it said you need to restart your computer in order for Malwarebytes to remove those files when it starts back up. There were two options, Ok or Cancel or something like that, can't remember but, i clicked OK because it did not seem to say anything like "if you want your computer to restart now press OK". So i pressed OK without even getting a chance to save my log file. It turned off all my other stuff which was only your directions on Internet Explorer and the ATF cleaner. So now I rescanned it, and also realized what you said about it saving auto. So i will give you both logs of what happened then and now. But the second time that i scanned it said i had no problems, which makes me feel pretty good =). I just ran to see if Darksma was still there, which he was still appearing yes. Also, hard to notice but it may look like Internet Explorer is a little bit quicker. I am replying this on my computer this time and the only way i can really use Internet Explorer is if someone sends me a link to it through a program like AIM. So it does not look like it changed much, but it does seem as if the Internet Explorer has picked up its speed. What it used to do was the loading bar would get to about half way after about two minutes and then it would freeze there. Now it does it too, but sometimes i get it to load the site. Other than that this downloader never seemed to do anything else to my computer. So far i have not gotten any pop-ups, although i assume that i still might. This is the information i can give you so far on what happened, and thanks.

This time, i followed all of your steps again. I only did three of the Hijack This files that you asked me to fix. Good thing was that the windows explorer files you asked me to see if were there, were all not there. But the last step you asked me to do, i did not find Viewpoint Manager Service. I just ran Yahoo Anti-Spyware again, and it seems that it found 2 files of Darksma again. I did not press remove according to your directions. Great thing is that my computer seems that its running perfect. I can use Internet Explorer again just like it was. I have not gotten any pop-ups at all for a whole day. So i think it is good, if you give me permission i might as well remove Darksma on Anti-Spyware and see if he will come back.

I also forgot to mension that after we finish this, can just give me a couple basic steps to go back to where we started. Because at the beginning you told me to disable some things and i want to make sure that i can take that back up to how it was, thanks!

Run hijackthis again. Hit None of the above,
Click Do a System Scan Only.
Put a Check in the box on the left side on these: (Not to worry if not there)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click []b]Fix checked
Then reboot

go to start\run and type in
services.msc

when open on right side look for (both may not be there)

right click on it and left click on properties
then disable

  • If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Also i have a question, should i keep ComboFix for now? Because it was the first time for me seeing the program and it almost look like a virus itself, so it kinda scared me a little. I don't have a problem with having it if i still need it though, thanks!

1. Please open Notepad
Click Start , then Run
Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.

5. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. ComboFix will automatically REBOOT your machine when the KillAll:: switch is used..

7. Next, re-enable all the programs that you disabled prior to running ComboFix.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
