Hi

You seem to have installed AVG since your last post. This is fine, but you really shouldn't be running more than one Anti-Virus program at a time as they can cause conflicts and slow your system down. If you want to keep it, I recommend you uninstall Symantec Security Suite (this will mean you will also have to install a Firewall once you are clean).

Open HijackThis. Hit Do A System Scan Only. Place a check next to the following items (if present):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Logitech BT Wizard] LBTWiz.exe -silent

Close all browsers and windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Upload a File to Virustotal
Please visit Virustotal
  • Click the Browse... button
  • Navigate to the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\kgpfr2.cfg
  • Click the Open button
  • Click the Send button
  • Copy and paste the results back here please.
Please post a new HijackThis log after completing these steps.

Thanks.

Hi

If you decided to uninstall Symantec Security Suite, then you will now be without a firewall.

Install a firewall! Without a firewall you are very susceptible to being hacked, and people could gain access to your computer. If you don't have a firewall I strongly recommend you download ONE of the following:
1) Comodo
2) Agnitum
3) Sunbelt/Kerio

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your reply.
Hows the computer running at the moment?

Thanks.

If you've left Symantec on then thats OK, you don't need the extra firewall. Every Anti-Virus has it's ups and downs, AVG is often considered one of the better free ones.

Please try the following for DSS:
  • Make sure all other windows are closed.
  • Make sure that DSS.exe is located on your Desktop.
  • Click on your START button, then choose Run. A little box will appear.
  • Now copy and paste all the following in bold (including the "" marks into the run box and click OK.

    "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

  • This will start DSS in a different way. A small window will appear.
  • Click the Check All button.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When the scan is complete, please post the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply.
Thanks.

Good Day kfow,

I go by the nickname of Trevuren and I will be helping you during jp's absence.

First a question: Did you type in the quotation marks as described in jp's directions?

Yes I did. When I first insert that into "run"...comes up with unknown publisher then I say OK...and it does nothing and the DSS icon disappears.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner.
  • Please visit the Kaspersky Online Scanner website.
Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.
  • Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • Change the "Files of Type" dropdown box to "Text Files"
  • Enter a memorable filename.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

To be honest, I am not sure what is going on here. There could very easily be some critical Windows files either missing or damaged due to the infection. I suggest that we attempt a "repair" procedure. This procedure does not damage your data. However we need the original Windows CD to work with. Do you have it?
