Could someone look at my log. There are too many things running and this is causing the computer to run very slow. I want to get rid of anything that isnt necessary.

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum, You need to post an entire HJT log, do it this way please.

• Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
• Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
• Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

• This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

• Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
• Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
• It should have an icon next to it:
  
  Select it and click Remove.
• Reboot your system.
• Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
• Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 <--This is what you need to download and install.
• If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
• If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
• Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify

I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future


The rest of your log looks fine, but to be on the safeside, after you update your Java, run this free online virus scanner from Kaspersky.

Run this free online scan using Internet Explorer:

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  
• Now click on Scan Settings
  
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  
• Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  
• Standard
  
• Scan Options:
  
• Scan Archives
  
• Scan Mail Bases
  
• Click OK
  
• Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
  
• This will program will start and scan your system.
  
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  
• Now click on the Save as Text button:
  
• Save the file to your desktop.

Post the log along with a New HJT Log into your next reply.

Hi,

Log looks good

• Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
• Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
• It should have an icon next to it:
  
  Select it and click Remove.
• Reboot your system.
• Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
• Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 <--This is what you need to download and install.
• If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
• If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
• Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify

I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future


I am not looking at any Anti Virus software or a Firewall installed, in this day and age going online without them is kind of suicidal , here are some free ones to install, just install One AV and only One Firewall, more is overkill and will actually do you more harm than good.

I have a firewall on...also a antivirus...AVG it is listed in the HJT log and I also have the version of Java that you mentioned...I went to verify and it said... You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 6).

Hello, Yep your Java is up to date but I am looking at AVG Anti Spyware , not AV and I don't see a Firewall.

AVG Anti Spyware is a great program, keep it up to date and run scans once in awhile, but you still need a Anti Virus program, AV and AS are two different animals.

As far as the firewall, windows firewall just blocks incoming threats , not out going. Another words if you got infected with a trojan that wanted to send info back to its author, a regular firewall would block things from leaving your computer, the windows firewall will not.
