I don't think I have a virus or any problem of that type, but am wondering what HP processes are essential to have running. I have an HP computer and HP printer/scanner. Even outside of HP, are there processes here that are running for no good reason? I'd like to understand more about all this stuff better than I do. hi Contrarienne, commercial computers come with all kinds of stuff installed. some may be useful, many are bloatware. you should look in add/remove program files and uninstall the software your computer came with. or you can post a uninstall list like this: start hjt, click on open misc tools section, click on uninstall manager, last: click the save list button. you can copy/paste the list in reply. you can uninstall this, (windows can manage memory just fine) RamBooster 2.0

Thanks, shelf life. The reason I have Ram Booster isn't to optimize RAM, but to monitor how much is being used. It's the only program I could find that puts an icon that you can point at to see how much RAM is free. I like those meters that show when people use shell replacements or Stardock software, but don't know where to get them apart from those things. I do have plenty of software that came with the computer that I don't expect to use. I assume those HP items running need to run because of the printer.
