Hi! Welcome to the forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.
Hey Scotty, Thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions and tried to save the file. When I clicked the "save list" button the program closes. I'm not sure why it won't let me save the file. All other functions work just fine……refresh, back, etc….I've tried restarting my computer but no luck. Also wanted to let you know that Internet Explorer is very unstable. It takes forever to load and always crashes. I think it may be infected too???? So I've been using Mozilla Firefox and seem to be getting a better response. Norton Antivirus also found a Mislead application that was high risk so I fixed it. Anyway, what should i do about the "saving" issue. thanks again. Ken
Hey Scotty, I did some more research online and realized the "Antivirus 2008" application was a rogue virus program. I have deleted all the files and edited the registry. Norton Internet Security found two more "high" risk programs in the windows32 folder, so i fixed them. I think this should take care of the virus problem. I'm going to download a "fresh" copy of Internet Explorer 7. Hope this fixes my browser problem. I defragmented my main drive and updated Norton Security and Windows xp. If there is anything else that might improve my computer's performance. Please leave a post. Thanks again for your time…… Ken
Hi

Lets be sure.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • For Vista users, right-click DSS and select Run As Administrator
  • If asked to install HijackThis click on Yes
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply
Hi Scotty,

Here are the txt files you requested. Main first, then extra.

R1 APPDRV - c:\windows\system32\drivers\appdrv.sys
Not sure if this problem is related to the virus, but i can't upgrade windows. It says i need to "start" the upgrade services. When i change the startup type in automatic updates from "disabled" to "automatic", then attempt to "start" the service. It don't work. I've sent an email to microsoft, but thought you might have a suggestion. If i need to start another forum on this topic. Let me know. thank you
Hello

Lets get you clean first then have a go.

If you already have Combofix, please delete that copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

There is a tutorial on the basic use of Combofix here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer.

If you can't download it from there, please try these 2 alternative sites:

Forospyware
Geeks to Go

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet.
  • Click on this LINK to disable your security programs
  • Click Start>Run copy/paste or type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall into the Run box and click OK.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

In your next reply post:

New HijackThis log taken after the above scan has run
Scotty, I don't have Combofix. I will perform this process later, need to make my Tee time at 11:20. I will log back on later.
