The infected system is my brother's, wholives on the other side of the US from me. He's not very computer literate, and it took me hours to finally get GoToMyPC installed and running.
I tell you this because the firewall had to be disabled as a direct result of this, as he doesn't have access to his router to do port forwarding, so it was my only option. I will re-enable it once I know the system is clean.
System initially had antispywaremaster and malwarrior2008 infections. I cleaned those manually at first by deleting relevant registry run keys (so I could walk my brother through using the internet to get GoToMyPC installed), then via updated and latest versions of AdAware and SpyBot S&D. Initial results looked better, although SpyBot kept doing a startup scan and finding vundo (virtumonde).
After doing the Malwarebyte's scan, SpyBot stopped the reboot scans, BUT now I get a popup saying this (3 times):
Application popup: Apoint.exe - Bad Image : The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljJCuSLf.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
I also couldn't get to windowsupdate at first. Attempting to browse site got me this:
[Error number: 0x80070422]
The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is not running:
Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed)
I was able to start BITS, but on reboot it was off again. Event Log is and always has been fine. Automatic Updates was disabled. When I enabled it, it would sometimes stick as enabled, but on every attempt to start it, it told me this:
DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service wuauserv with arguments "" in order to run the server: {E60687F7-01A1-40AA-86AC-DB1CBF673334}
Anyway, this doesn't happen anymore. May or may not be a related issue with all of the infections. I was able to set the service to 'automatic' after my last reboot and it works now. So I did a full windows update *after* I did the attached malware logs (Should I post all new ones?). I don't know if it was the Malwarebyte's scan that fixed it, or that I turned off automatic updates via the right-click menu of 'my computer' and then rebooted (a suggestion taken from a google search.)
Here's my Malwarebyte's log:
