Hi
Can you get it by typing taskmgr in the run box?
and if that gets:

Can you try another keyboard? Just to make sure that it is in fact your present keyboard that`s faulty.

also another trick is to shut PC down unplug keyboard and then plug it back in and restart. I say again please shut down before unpluging the key board.

typing taskmgr still brings up a pop up window that says it has been disables by administrator, however this function does work for the other lonin name on this computer. perhaps i need to reassign admin rights to my login name? All I know is I used to have admin rights….. Here is latest hijack log. thanks. :-)

in fact I just checked again by switching to the HPadmin login and my user account "kathleen monique" has full admin rights. It isn't the keyboard because I went to "teresa lee's" user account and she can get taskmgr. it is just not woirking on my account.

Hi Did you try going to control pannel and clicking on user account and checking to see if you account is to be same as other? ms

Yes, I went to the admin account. I checked to make sure Kathleen Monique had administrative control. It did. I then changed it to "Limited", and then back to "Administrative Control". I re-booted the computer, and that account still doesn't have Administrative Control… I double checked, and it should. ????

Hi lets try this: Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste) REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD If that don't work try this: Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe Navigate to the following branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableTaskMgr Close Regedit.exe good luck ms

this is my canned all clean speech.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Note you may have some of theses programs allready, if so just a reminder to keep updated.

FIRST:
You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

NEXT:
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
2. Change theDownload unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
3. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Use an Anti Virus Software

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

I forgot, I noticed Trend Internet Security is not on your list of reccmmended virus scanners. Should I uninstall it and get one of the ones you recommended. I know this is getting off topic so feel free to respond in a private message. Thanks very much! kb

I was looking over your log and it seems to have a possible hidden bad guy.
So to play it safe and be sure, lets do one moe thig:

Download ComboFix from or to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish
