Hi,

Norton is a good program but you will find what one finds another program will not, my self you have it installed I would keep it, just check for updates and run scans. If you want to remove it you can and here is a link to a free one, but make sure you remove Norton first as two AV programs are overkill and not recommended. Keep in mind also that AV programs find and block viruses and not a lot of the malware floating around.

Free Anti Virus Programs

A Firewall also should be installed, these are all free

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 <-- You should have installed this and you can remove all the other ones that you see in the Add Remove Programs.

ok, hope there isn't something else going on now: checked out Comodo, installed, etc, ran ok for first few hours, now it seems like everything is 'choked up' and running slow. start up is much faster than before, but the internet takes forever to load a new page now. i also have been trying to get my system to recognize my external DVDR/RW enclosure connected via USB ( checked for updated drivers and there are none, even at manufacturer site. i tried to roll back the driver, but it won't because it says there are none. tried to run system restore, it wont finish - i can select the point and get to the final step and it acts like it is going to restore, but it never does. can you help or should i post a new topic? :pullhair:

I would uninstall Comodo firewall, I have always used Zone Alarm with no issues.

System Restore really does not let you know when its finished, it does nothing but it most likely worked

Make sure you do this.
Create a new Restore Point <-- Very Important

  • Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You need to go into the Control Panel and switch to Catagory View to be able to Create a New Restore Point
System Restore Tutorial <-- If you need it
