I'm somewhat a newbie and literally clicked a video clip to watch and got the prompt to update my Active X to the latest version. Thats when the mess hit the fan. After doing some reading here, I installed and ran "Super antispyware free adition" with no positive results. I also installed "RVAXO" and ran it but dont really know what to do with it. I since installed "HijackThis". I restarted my PC and ran a HLT log which is pasted below. Please help me!! Thanks in advance.

Also, the "pop up" that I keep getting everytime I go to a new web site or web page is a box with the blue top and a red X in the top left corner. It says" Your system is infected with a dangerous virus! Note: Strongley recommend to install antispyware program to clean your system and avoid to crash of your computer. Click OK to download the antispyware. (Recommended) Below that is an "OK" button and a "CANCEL" button. I just keep hitting the cancel button. Thought this extra data may be of some help. I'm off to work now but will check back in the morning. Thanks in advance for your support.
As another piece of data to help troubleshoot, Just now I done a full virus scan using my AVG software and it found nothing?? After only a few minutes online I got the same old popup warning. I've since shut the PC down and am posting from my laptop. Hope this helps. Thanks in advance.
As I research this site to look at others HJT log, I see "ActiveX" somewhere in there log. Mine does not have this?? I did notice that neat the bottom around line 024 it shows 2 of my Avast files missing some info?
Hi jster171,

Don't worry when HijackThis says "file missing" as it's not always correct. The two Avast files which HijackThis reports as 'missing' are present in the running processes so they most definitely aren't 'missing'!

Please open this page in your browser:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-mal….php?channel=32
Fill in the link to topic field with a link to this topic
Copy/paste the following into the Browse to the file you want to submit field:

C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\TCYZZDQ3\MCW[1].exe

Then press Send File, this will upload the file for analysis

————————————————————————

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As…, select your Desktop and press Save):
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C: ), and launch from there.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. Further info is available here.

————————————————————————

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As…, select your Desktop and press Save)
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply

Once complete, please post the SmitfraudFix report and both DSS logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as DSS produces one for you.
Thanks for you help. Below is the main text of the DSS scan:

Hi jster171,

Temporarily disable Windows Defender:
  • Right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray and select Open
  • Click on Tools from the top menu, then press Options
  • Scroll down to Real-time protection options, uncheck Use real-time protection and press Save
  • Close Windows Defender

Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, and remove the following:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 12
JavaT 6 Update 5

These are out of date and now a security risk, you can get the latest update (version 6 update 6) from here

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines:

O2 - BHO: SSV - {69F6C0AE-0C78-4999-B6D1-62932A265C5D} - C:\WINDOWS\ssvapad.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MCW Startup] "C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\TCYZZDQ3\MCW[1].exe" /s

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Use Windows Explorer (right-click Start, select Explore) to find and delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\ssvapad.dll
C:\smp.bat

If you have trouble finding or deleting any, please let me know in your next response.

Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Recycle Bin, Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Press OK and Yes to confirm

Then please do an online scan with Kaspersky:
Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer using this link:
http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/d…kavwebscan.html
  • Click Accept and the web scanner will begin to load
  • If a yellow warning bar appears at the top of the browser, click it and choose Install ActiveX Control
  • You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, click Install
  • If you are prompted about another ActiveX control called Kaspersky Online Scanner GUI part then allow it to be installed also.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on Next and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save Report As… button, change Save as type: to Text file and save the file to your desktop as Kaspersky.txt
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Once complete, please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log.

Hi jster171

Did you have any trouble finding and deleting those files?

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following line:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MCW Startup] "C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\TCYZZDQ3\MCW[1].exe" /s

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Once complete, please post a new HijackThis log and let me know how your computer is running now.
