thats a pretty sparse looking log. i see you have antivirus, and spybot. both are up to date? what about a scan with them, coming up clean?

did you add this ip to your host file:

O1 - Hosts: 127.255.255.255 serial.alcohol-soft.com

that looks like some part of a software crack/patch.

for some reason you dont want to go to the web site.
maybe verification of a license for the software?

Hey shelf life!
thanks for the responce...

Both spybot and Nod32 are up to date. Spybot came up clean however Nod32 detected a backdoor trojan in win/sys32 folder and C:\documents and settings folder. It could not give me a name except for NTUSER.DAT


Could it be the yahoo tool bar line in my hijack log or this one?

your java is out of date, the why and how:
Vulnerabilities/exploits in versions of Sun Java may be responsible for some malware installs via your browser.

It is important to keep Sun Java up to date and also to remove older versions which may have vulnerabilites/exploits that can be taken advantage of to possibly introduce malware.

* 1. Uninstall old versions of Sun Java via Add/Remove Programs.
* 2. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
* 3. Reboot your PC if prompted.

to check if you have the latest version of Java and to download the latest version:

you do have a dial up modem and not cable or dsl broadband?(for a online scan)

lets get the new copy of hjt also, you can delete/uninstall the current copy and get the new:

* Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
* Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
* Click on Install.
* It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
* Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log into your (Click --> ) next reply.

click start button
allow the ActiveX component to install
click the start button. the Scanner will update.
check both "Remove found threats" and "Scan unwanted applications"
click scan
when done you can find the scan log at:C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
please copy/paste that log in next reply.
