Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  • Create a folder called HJT either in C: or My documents or some place convenient.
  • Download Hijackthis from here.

Place it in the folder you just created

This will ensure we have back ups made and it doesn't get deleted.

  • Open HJT choose scan and save a log file.
  • copy the contents of that log for me in your next reply.

Do not attempt to fix anything with HJT it shows both good and bad entries and files.

Copy the contents from the HJT log and post it back here using the reply button.
The help you receive here is free. If you wish to show your appreciation, then you may donate to help keep us online.

You know, I'm fairly sure I'm not thick, but could I find your 'send' key? Your interface could be made easier to accomodate the lowest common denominator types like me please........

HI again,

You know, I'm fairly sure I'm not thick, but could I find your 'send' key? Your interface could be made easier to accomodate the lowest common denominator types like me please........

Even they find it eventually. :smack:

You did just fine answering. The interface is what it is. But I'll pass your notes along.

Logitech® Desktop Messenger (LDM) is a free service designed to deliver software support, news and information you can use.
LDM ensures that you have simple, speedy, and effortless access to product upgrades, technology tips, and technology news and offers
that are relevant to you. LDM delivers information right to your desktop, allowing you to take advantage of all of the advanced features of the
Logitech products you own, while staying abreast of new computer?related product and service developments (Logitech and otherwise) that are applicable to your life.
Once a week, when connected to the internet, Logitech Desktop Messenger will automatically connect with Logitech servers to see if there are any new messages for you. I
t performs this check during idle time to avoid slowing down other applications that may be accessing the Internet. If there is a message on the server, then Logitech Desktop
Messenger will download the message utilizing bandwidth that would otherwise be unused. After the message is downloaded, Logitech Desktop Messenger will wait for one
minute of keyboard and mouse inactivity before displaying the message on your screen. I suggest doing all updates yourself and removing this application! These are the items
to fix in HijackThis:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
Smitfraud by S!ri

  • Double click the smitfraud.exe
  • When promoted
    Press any key to continue.
  • Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with any others I have asked for in your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. When prompted by allow it to run

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
If you do and smitfraud isn't present it will have undesirable effects

Ok bob4, I think I've managed to follow your instructions

I didn't do anything to fix the 018 lines, was I supposed to?

I haven't uninstalled LDM, but I will. We don't take any notice of it anyway. One thing though.......you suggest 'doing all updates yourself'. We've no idea how to update, or even if we need the updates, given we ignore the service.

Our ISP is Sky.

Our laptop was networked to the office of my firm (Websters) for use from home. Websters went to the wall, but I kept the laptop. The Websters' server was taken down. However, there are still Websters' features on the laptop eg when we log on, the Websters logo appears and we have to use the old Websters' password. We've tried to change this, but are prevented from doing this without permission of the 'system administrator', which of course we can't obtain as there isn't a system administrator anymore. Whenever I track change a word document, and the cursor hovers over the changes, a bubble appears advising that Websters effected the changes on such and such a date.

Anyway, here's the new HJT log:

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

________________________________________________
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Hi Ran the HJT scan and Fix Checked the four Websters 017s But I when I rebooted in Safe Mode, and entered my password, a Logon message came up saying: "The system cldn't log you on. Make sure user name and domain name are correct, then type in password again" I tried a few times, shut down and tried again, same thing happened. The user name and password are definitely correct. Caps Lock wasn't on. I can't comment on the domain name, but I did notice an absence of any ref to Websters. One point, bob4. At the end of your last reply, you ask how things seem to be running. About ten days ago, we were hijacked, malware alerts, pop ups, internet unuseable for unwanted windows filling the screen which we cldn't close fast enough. However, I was still able to use Outlook Express and Word, which is critical for my work. I d/loaded Stopzilla and the alerts etc disappeared. Things were running pretty well. I read bad reviews about Stopzilla, uninstalled it and installed Spybot and Ad Aware. Spybot told me we were clean save for Zlob. It seemed to me that if I don't understand alot of this, I have no idea what damage even one infection can cause, and there may be more than one (which seems to be what you're telling me). Plus someone has obtained our credit card details and bought fck off plasma screen TVs. So I contacted you. I assume it worth going through with this, even though the laptop is working fine at present.........

For safe mode let's try this.

Open HJT click on
config...
Then click on backups

Place a tick by

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = WEBSTERS.uk.int
O17 - HKLM\Software\..\Telephony: DomainName = WEBSTERS.uk.int
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = WEBSTERS.uk.int
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = WEBSTERS.uk.int

and choose restore.
This will place this/these back where they were originally.

______________________________

Now try safe mode and the smitfraud fix.

No joy

I've still got Websters' IT managers mobile, so I've sent him a text to see see if he can offer any help

No guarantee he'll even reply

Is it absolutely necessary to do this in Safe Mode?

Here's fresh HJT log so you know the 017s have been restored:

Run the fix from normal mode for now. When you post back the log from smitfraud you can tell me this. When you log on to safe mode are you trying with your login name or as administrator ?

Out of 700 odd files, all the Windows\Temp files/progs deleted save for five because: '....xyz is being used by another person or programme. Close any progs that might be using the prog and try again.' I noted down a couple of the progs: mcmsc_usoy1C7CJP3cgRZ Perflib_perfdata_184 sqlite_dAWxih64RabfiRP and I think the others were sqlites, too I've stopped there. Not gone on to [(EVERY LISTED USER) [/i]or further

xyz is being used by another person or programme

That's why we try it in safe mode.

Just continue on with the rest of the instructions. Don't be to concerned with that.
