Running Vista and latest IE. Getting multiple pages popping up everywhere. Ran AVG 7.5.524 = found some trojans and removed them. Still have same problem. Ran Spy Hunter - didn't find much, no help, have since uninstalled Spy Hunter. Here is my Hijackthis log:

• It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.

Hi Aline,

Hopefully we can stop these annoyances. Roll up your sleeves and let's get cleaning.

Step 1: Temporarily Disable Windows Defender
Microsoft Defender normally provides real-time protection from spyware, however it may interfere with what we need to do. We will disable it until the machine is clean when it can be re-enabled.

- Open Windows Defender
- Select Tools and then General Settings
- Under Real Time Protection Options uncheck Turn on real-time protection
- Select Save
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

Step 2: Clean with CCleaner
*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.

• Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
• Select your language and click OK, then next.
• Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
• Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
• Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
• On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
• If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
• Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
  deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
• Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
• Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
• After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Step 2: Uninstall Some Dubious Programs
Some parasites can be easily and effectively removed from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel.
Please go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and remove Incredimail and Wild Tangent.
While both of these programs have their uses, they are technically adware/spyware. They may be collecting data on your computing habits as well as introducing ads to your computer.

Step 3: Clean with HijackThis
Scan with HijackThis and check the following if present.

CLOSE ALL OTHER WINDOWS and select "Fixed Checked".

Step 4: Upload a Questionable File for Analysis
Please visit http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Copy/paste this file and path into the white box at the top:

C:\Windows\system32\schtasks.exe

Press Submit - this will submit the file for testing.
Please wait for all the scanners to finish then copy and paste the results in your next response.

Step 5: Scan with Kaspersky Web Scanner
Please do an online scan with KasperskyWebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  Extended (if available otherwise
  Standard)
  
  • Scan Options:
  Scan Archives
  Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
• This will program will start and scan your system.
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been
  infected.
  
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Step 6: Update Java
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 6.

• Go to http://java.sun.com/...loads/index.jsp
• Click on the link named Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6
• Click on the radio button to Accept License Agreement
• Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
• Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
• Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
• Reboot your computer
• Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
• Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
• Reboot your computer

When you've completed all of the above steps, please post back with a new HijackThis log, the results of the Kaspersky scan and the results from Jotti.
