I used several removers to cleanse the many viruses and trojans my son downloaded when he put Pocket Tanks on our computer from the Limewire site.

We had Tronjan:Win32\C2Lop.E, Conhook.D, Matcash.DU, Vundo.BC, Vundo.gen!C, Vundo.gen!E....and TrojanDownloader:Win32\Matcash.D\VB.....and Adware:Win32\BestRevenge.

To cleanse I used Spybot, AVG Anit-Spyware, Registry Cleaner & Windows One Care Live.

It seemed to work, but I'm still getting a pop-up window that says "advertisement" in the blue border, but otherwise is blank. Under properties, it says "http://mtn5.goole.ws...imeout=0&ct0=".

PLEASE HELP!!

Here is my hijack log:

I don't see anymore windows popping up.....I think I might be clean. Should I do a deep scan again? Which scan should I use? I do have one more question. Before I spoke with you, I had a missing file alert when I'd restart my comp. It said this file was missing: Rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\ljsjxyx.dll", s. I unchecked that box under startup because I thought it was part of the virus, but the line is still there. Is this important? Should I take another action?

Thank you again for your attention.

Hi cpauszek

Before I spoke with you, I had a missing file alert when I'd restart my comp. It said this file was missing: Rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\ljsjxyx.dll", s. I unchecked that box under startup because I thought it was part of the virus, but the line is still there. Is this important? Should I take another action?

The missig dll is part of the virus you had. Lets try to stop it from showing up:
FIRST:
Go to
C:\Windows\system32\ljsjxyx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\022744~1.EXE
delete the file in red

.I think I might be clean. Should I do a deep scan again?

You can use this Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1 again.
Let me know if you were able to rid the above two items

I can't get rid of those two items. Even when I check this (O23 - Service: McAfee Application Installer Cleanup (0227441208424950) (0227441208424950mcinstcleanup) - McAfee, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\022744~1.EXE) on the HJL and check fix, it shows up again. My search for those two comes up empty. Thanks for your response again.

Hi cpauszek
please download killbox
from here:

HERE

Now go ahead and set your computer to show hidden files like so: (Should allready been done just check)

click on My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Apply then OK. Click Yes to confirm.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to backup and delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\Windows\system32\ljsjxyx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\022744~1.EXE

Let me know if that did it?

Hi cpauszek

lets stop the service in 023

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find this exact name

McAfee Application Installer Cleanup

Rightclick and choose "Properties". Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Click Apply then OK. File-Exit the Services utility.

Now reboot and again try HJT and check mark:
O23 - Service: McAfee Application Installer Cleanup (0227441208424950) (0227441208424950mcinstcleanup) - McAfee, Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\022744~1.EXE
Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click Fix checked
Then reboot
Now
Go to
C:\Windows\system32\ljsjxyx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\022744~1.EXE
see for yourself if there or not.
while your looking at C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
try deleteing all the temp files, some won't let you ok once it won't let you go
back and delete the onens you can
good luck mschroe919

When I did this......

"Rightclick and choose "Properties". Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Click Apply then OK. File-Exit the Services utility"

.....I was able to do the "disabled", but the service status was already stopped, and everything else was grayed out. I also didn't see it anymore on the HJL.

There are two things that I cannot delete under temp files:
1. mcafee_w5shmIMtFjhWD9A
2. mcmsc_k5Aw34oPhUSi35K

Any idea why?

Do you thing I am finally clean? My last scan you told me to do didn't find anything.

Thank you.....

Hi cpauszek
I see that your log is clean. You did great cleaning it up,
pat yourself on the back.
As I said there would be more .....here
this is my canned all clean speech.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Note you may have some of theses programs allready, if so just a reminder to keep updated.

FIRST:
You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.
===================================================================
NEXT:
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
2. Change theDownload unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
3. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
====================================================================

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky...ne.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com...e.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:
http://www.zonelabs.....jsp?lid=nav_za

Sunbelt Kerio:
http://www.sunbelt-s...e.com/Kerio.cfm

OutPost:
http://www.agnitum.c...ee/download.php
================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
Happy surfing the net

I only ask one thing....please
Please post back and let us know what you think about our forum, we are all volunteers and would like a little smile.

Good luck and happy net surfing

Thank you so much for all your advice and help. I implemented everything you told me, and although my computer is still a bit slow to open programs like IE or OutlookExpress, you have helped me immensely. I have a feeling we simply have a lot of photos and music saved to files. I posted the same original post at majorgeeks and tech support forum. I did not get a reply at either site. You answered me so quickly, and responded so fast to my replies I couldn't believe it. I will be making a donation to this site. I couldn't have done it without you. A MILLION THANK YOUS!!!

Hi cpauszek
Thank you for your kind words and this is what we do here.
Now
One more step in trying to speed up your PC:

NEXT:
Lets try something here to speed up your PC.

First:

Please download System Security Suite.

HERE

Extract it from the zip file into a folder.
.
Run 3S under “Items To Clear” tab place a checkmark in all of them but the last.

then under autorun tasks just lock the ones you don't want to start. Your not deleteing them
just stopping them. You can start them manualy.
Thanks again and enjoy
