No, although I'll admit I had an illegal Office at one point, I regret it, but I bought a real 07 one last year. Same school gives its comp students windows for free, so while I didn't pay for it, its legit.

I work at a high school. Teachers can get a MS Office copy but NOT Windows OS. If you're school is doing that, they are in violation of MS agreements.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
muBlinder

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [muBlinder] D:\Recieved Files\muBlinder\muBlinder.exe -startup
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete this File if listed:
D:\Recieved Files\muBlinder\muBlinder.exe

Delete this Folder if listed:
D:\Recieved Files\muBlinder

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Alrighty, done. As for the windows, its available to all people who take comp sci, at my school, Kwantlen. I think its pretty common. You get the disc from them and a special link that goes right to microsoft and you get a key straight from their site. We don't get office, we purchase that from a similar site and download it at a reduced price. I have a friend who goes to a college in Indy and they get the same thing, its nice. The disc the school gives out is useless without your unique school ident and the microsoft link to activate it.

That pesky svchost.log still seems active.

I'll assume they have some type of agreement with MS then.

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

    Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Note: I no longer suggest Zone Alarm

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Winpatrol

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

Thanks again for all the help, its really appreciated, I can be sure the SVChost.log isn't a malicious keylogger? Its still popping up in the malwarebytes report.

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.log (Heuristics.Reserved.Word.Exploit) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. It shows it was deleted. Where is it showing it?

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

D:\Program Files\SopCast\adv\SopAdver.exe

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

Do the same for this one:
D:\Program Files\SopCast\SopCast.exe

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

OK, here are those scans. I can't even recall what sopcast is for but its been on the machine awhile I think. Could be for watching european soccer. RICHTX32.log is still present but not coming up on any scans. If I turn read only off it begins key logging everything again right away. Its in my C:/windows/system32 directory. I can open it and see it logging exactly what I type, the Svchost.log just shows up on the scans, when I open it, its all gibberish, so I'm not sure if its keylogging and somehow encyrpting it or what. Lets get the latest combofix and run a new scan.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish
