[CleanMe]

Hello,

A few days ago my compter uprgaded my java platform, but now my internet pages wont load at all when I have to type in the address, or if they do, it takes several attempts and about 20 mins......i have high speed internet and it has always been lightning fast before. I have attached my log

CleanMe,

Hijackthis is out dated, uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and then download and install the latest version by Trendmicro.

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe

• Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
• Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
• Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.



Run this free online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  
• Now click on Scan Settings
  
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  
• Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  
• Standard
  
• Scan Options:
  
• Scan Archives
  
• Scan Mail Bases
  
• Click OK
  
• Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
  
• This will program will start and scan your system.
  
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  
• Now click on the Save as Text button:
  
• Save the file to your desktop.

Post the log along with a New HJT Log into your next reply.

Hello,

Yep, I remember helping you before. Your Kaspersky log is clean as is your HJT log. Wondering if you got a bad Java Download although I stay up with all the update and none of them have bothered my system. Here are the instructions for the update, be sure to uninstall any previous updates first.

• Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
• Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
• It should have an icon next to it:
  
  Select it and click Remove.
• Reboot your system.
• Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
• Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 <--This is what you need to download and install.
• If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
• If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
• Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify

I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future




Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

• This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.

Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

it has helped quite a bit with internet usage, but my computer itself still seems slower than it should be. I havent defragged in a few months though, so I will do that and hopefully it will help. Thanks so much for your help and speedy responses

Good Morning,

Go to Start> All Programs> Asssessories> System Tools> Defragmenter......select your C: drive and go for it, if you have not done this in awhile it can take some time, maybe over an hour depending on the size of your drive.

Think about any software you may have installed prior to the slow down and uninstall it and see if it makes a difference. If you feel the performance could be better than post in one of these windows support forums, they can help you locate a possible corrupted driver for a piece of hardware, this slows you down, or look through some of the programs you have installed and possibly spot one that could cause trouble. We only do malware removal on this forum but we do have one here for windows issues.

Everything was fine......and now this morning the weirdest thing happened with my computer.....Sometimes my cat likes to be naughty and walk on my laptop when im not watching (I usually half shut the lid so she cant, must have forgot last night). Anyway, when I came to my computer it was off, so I turned it back on. When it came on, the disk drive opened on its own, and the computer looked as if it was shut down via hibernation as there were several programs running. When I would go into Internet Explorer, anytime I clicked something on the page, it would open it in a new window instead of loading it in the current window. Just trying to get to my email and read a message took about 5 windows. Then I noticed my CAPS locks was lighting up when the caps WERENT on, and shutting off when the caps WERE on. Then I tried to come here and post a reply, but It wouldnt let me sign in, kept saying my account didnt exist. So I tried to go into my anti virus and malware programs to runs scans and it wouldnt let me, would keep opening Internet Explorer instead. I finally went to system restore and it wouldnt let me do THAT either. Finally after tinkering around for 15 minutes I finally got it to restore to another point (even though it wasnt the point I wanted) and from there I was able to at least get the window to stay up, and I then restored to a clean point I just (luckily) made a day or so ago. Now my computer is fine. Is this something that my evil black cat did by stepping on a lucky series of keys? Was their a virus? I am now running all computer scans that I have, but so far nothing has come up. Please help me with this scary computer haywire experience!!!

Hello, I am not now and never have been a big fan of Hibernation, GOD only knows what your cat stepped on. Just run it for a few days and if does not get better post a new HJT log, and lets hope the cat didn't bork one of the keys on the keypad.
