Hi Steph,

The Kaspersky log may look bad but it's really not. Everything is in quarantine or in restore points, and we'll take care of all that now.

You can empty out your Norton quarantine folder.

Delete the Smitfraudfix tool and folders, and the SDFix folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Marty1\Desktop\downloads\SmitfraudFix
C:\Documents and Settings\Marty1\Desktop\downloads\SmitfraudFix.zip
C:\Documents and Settings\Myla\My Documents\smitfraud
C:\SDFix

Clean up from combofix:

• Click START then RUN
• Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

The above procedure will:

• Delete the following:
  • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
  • VundoFix backups, if present
  • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
  • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
• Reset the clock settings.
• Hide file extensions, if required.
• Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
• Reset System Restore.

If all is running well then you should be OK now.

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 5.

• Go to the Sun Java Website
• Click on the download button next to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5
• Check the circle next to I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.
• Click on the link Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk.
• Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
• Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
• Reboot your computer
• Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
• Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
• Reboot your computer

I think things are good. I have posted a HJT log below...I niticed my room mate or someone had removed the combofix icon on the desktp, though I may have also done that. I re-rancombofix and noticed the Red (X) went away per your last instructions. My room mate had downloaded software called ErrorSmart. I jsut rant it for curiosity and it said I had 933 errors found..I really wonder if that is true...my system really seems to running up to speed, with no popups..or hangups.

I have also read your two articles on how to get clean, stay clean, and How did I get infected.. I currently have AVG and Norton 360. I think the NOrton runs all the time..just not vissible..as for AVG I think it is a run on demand....Can I keep these two on my HD at the same time...as for your other software ideas...do I keep them on board, or just go get them very frequently..I guess like the Java I need to continually update stufff. If you can explain that better that would be wonderful. IF, I am clean after you view the below log..I feel estatic...I can not thank you enough...is there a way I can send a gratuity...that is politically correct for , can I pay you something for all you have helped with....also can you be FOUND specifically if help is needed again...

Hi Steph,

Honestly I have not tested Error Smart and don't use or recommend those registry cleaners. I don't think this one is "rogue" but reviews are mixed and I would advise using Add or Remove Programs to uninstall it. The programs like ATFCleaner and CCleaner are safer and have a better reputation. I would stick with those.

Norton and AVG are a good combination and will not conflict with each other.

As far as updating goes, maybe this program would be something you want to check out. I use it myself and am very happy with it, definitely helps to stay on top of things.

Hello David, I wanted to ask about the software XoftSpySE. This is also on my computer, along with Norton 360 and AVG. Both AVG and Xoft run on demand...do you see any conflict. Everything is running great as best I can tell . I also have scanned once or twice again, with Malware bytes, which is on my desktop...is that an OK place, or does it need to be uninstalled..?? I also have Kasperkey still on my desktop..does it need to go, or stay....Finally I sent $50.oo to the forum Thanks again and best of luck with others. Steph1470

Hi Steph, I don't see any conflicts there, that sounds like a good plan. I would keep MalwareBytes and run occasional scans. Not sure why Kaspersky would be on the desktop? You only used it for the online scan right? Thank you for the generous donation. Regards, Dave
