[Resolved] HJT not working! computer going nuts!

Good grief. My computer slowly has been not letting me click on anything. I try to bring up task manager and it just give me the "chello" sound of error, but no message pops up. Then, I try to run HJT and a little tiny window pops up and says, "HJT, out of memory". What the carp** is that>?! I need help fast!!. I ran Spybot SD and my adaware(free) and both came up clean.

I dont understand!!!! please help. If I could get my HJT to work I'd post it.

I already have combofix and atf cleaner. I try to go to "start" and hit "run" to start ATF cleaner, (because I dont know where the .exe file is ) and I click on "run" and it does nothing. Plus, everytime I rightclick on an icon on my desktop, it just gives me the option to sendto/copy/paste/properties. no "open"


I need some help asap!!!

OK, first a few things before we do anything.

1. Please only reply to this thread. You have opened several threads and I have just closed a couple others, along with one that LDTate closed.
2. Next…this is the biggie. Do you want our help here or not? I ask this because you had Trevuren helping you in this thread:

And questioned what he was doing. Let me tell you, Trev is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable helpers in these forums. I have learned much from him and continue to do so. If you want help here you have to trust the advice we're giving you. LDTate had come into that thread and given you an explanation but you never came back. Before I respond with any suggestions you need to let us know if you will take the advice given. There are MANY, MANY people looking for help and we don't have time to explain every little detail.

I hope I made things clear and if you want the help I would be more than willing to do so.

First off. I'm sorry for the lack of response to my previous thread. I wasnt around my computer (or any for that matter) for a few days and then when I did check it it was taken off of your forum, to which I understand. I'm sorry if I wasted anyone's time. I do respect you position, and admire your skills. In fact, I have told many people about you guys. Well then we'll basically pick it up where Trevuren left off. Make sure you remove the version of combofix you had previously before downloading a fresh one now.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE
  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

so….after combofix did its thing…(it took forever..and finally rebooted my pc) it gave me this. not titled "combofix.txt." but just "log.txt."

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner and click Accept

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:

  • Click OK

  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Computer seems to doing ok. Taskmanager pops right up. HJT runs great. Just hope it stays that way. Kaspersky says I have a few virii?…

Hi,

A couple of things here. It still looks like you have 2 firewalls running here? Trevuren had warned you about this earlier. Are there still 2 present in Add or Remove Programs? Let's have you post an uninstall log and see what's there….

We are going to use HJT to create a list of your currently installed programs.1. Open HijackThis and click on the Config… button in the "Other stuff" section (lower right hand corner).
2. Click on the Misc Tools button.
3. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
4. Click on the Save list… button.
5. Save the file uninstall_list.txt to a convinient location. This should open Notepad with the list.
6. Please Copy and Paste the list into your next reply.

Well….I disarmed zonealarm…didnt think it was still running in the background. The only one running as far as I'm concerned is Avast On Access Protection. I'm assuming you want me to delete (Zone Alarm) from that list. What do you recomend as the best firewall? In other words, what do you yourself use? My bad here. I thought from the name of the service in your Hijackthis log that the program IMMonitor was a firewall. Looks like it just tracks AIM usage. I'm not familiar with it. So you can feel free to keep ZA if you like it. Or I'll suggest some others in my "all clean". I've used several different. I am using and like comodo right now, but that could change. I used to like ZA but I think it uses too much resources now. Just my opinion.

To give you the short answer, NO. There are so many factors. Sometimes it just depends on where the file is running from. Sometimes a file infector can replace a good file. It takes experience and knowledge to know what you're looking for. Google is a great place to start and do some research, but you can't just go by what you find in one link. Also, if you ever question a file you can upload it to Jotti or one of the scanners for evaluation. On the dumprep.exe file…

I downloaded a couple free ones to try but deleted them. One "free trial keylogger" called I think "Spypal" I deleted but I dont think its gone all the way. I had to email the company and get instructions on how to delete, and it did stop popping up every 30 mins reminding me to buy, but I think it may still be there. ALSO: I puchased a keylogger. I still use it. It's called "All in one Keylogger". It runs in the background in stealth mode and I use a hot key password to bring it up. Ever since my last scan my hot key combo doesnt do anything. I dont understand. I dont want it deleted because it works great, I've never had any problems, and most importantly, I purchased it. But for some reason, I cant find the thing in my computer anywhere. Other than that, everything seems to be working ok. I would like to know how to get rid of the windows warning icon "your computer may be at risk" everytime I turn ZoneAlarm off. (hope I didnt accidently delete my $50 dollar program (keylogger)!!!! :smack:

The only keloggers I can see are Spyware.SystemSleuth surveillance software…which we took out with combofix. And there is one called XPCSpy Pro, which is showing in your Kaspersky log but was not fixed by Kaspersky (Kaspersky does not fix anything), and we have not done anything with it yet, that's the one I was asking about.

After what scan did the "all in one" keylogger stop working? When was the last time it did work? I don't see any traces of it anywhere in the logs (although that's the goad and idea behind a keylogger huh?).

Many scanners do pick up the keyloggers as malicious as by design and used for the wrong thing they can be dangerous, but I understand that you knowingly installed and used this one.

As far as the first two you mentioned…..I'm surprised they are still there….blasted basturds!!!…. Those can be deleted. (with your help ofcourse) The one I purchased.."all in one key logger"….I was able to use the Hot Key a couple nights ago….I think I was before the last post you sent me with the Kaspersky and such….. Hope that helps. I also took out alot of carp** from my add/remove list….including Zone alarm. (after restart) So, I'm thinking about downloading Comodo….just because I trust your knowledge. (Sort of like…"4 out of 5 Dentist use brand 'x'….so can you!!" )…do you concure?
