So when I started on this computer it had a lot of problems, including freezing, popups, and some sort of virus that redirected every yahoo search result to a pron site. Well, I've fixed those problems, but the computer is still lagging. Or at least the mouse is. My internet speed and load speed seems to be fine, but it's like the mouse freezes, and then jumps, and then moves very slowly. I hope I'm explaining this well enough. A friend suggested that it might be the touchpad itself, so I plugged it a USB mouse, and it did the same thing. Anyways, I'm not sure if the Hijack this log will help, but I'll post it anyways. Thanks in advance!

Oh, also, I was just looking through the log and there's a few things for McAfee. I hate McAfee, and I've uninstalled it and tried to remove all the leftovers, and I thought I got it all, but they're in this log. I'm not sure what that mean, but if it means I still have parts of McAfee on my computer, I want them gone…

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment
Ok, I installed AVG, and ran a scan. It found two problems, but I don't know how to fix them. As for ow my computer is acting right now, well, it froze about an hour into my AVG scan, if that says anything. It's slow and laggy, and the mouse still glitches like previously described. A friend told me to disable the 'tap to click' feature of my mouse pad, and that has helped a little with the mouse problem. I'm not sure if there's any improvement with my USB mouse, because I'm on vacation and I forgot to bring it with me. Another problem that I recently noticed is a strange sidebar in IE. I posted a screenshot here, along with a little more information. I'm not sure how long the IE thing has been going on, because I normally use FireFox. I think those are my main problems right now. I posted the log below, like you asked. Thanks for helping me out. :-)

I'm not seeing anything left that is bad but we can stop some of the resource hogs that don't need to run at startup.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok, I hope I did all that right. I think I did, because my computer seems to be running faster. It took a while to reboot, and for about the first minute I was scared because it was being really glitchy, but then it like snapped out of it and it's been doing really well since. Here's the new hijack log.

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

    Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

:woot: Alright! So I'm good to go. But now I want to know what everything you told me to do meant, so I'm gonna go join the classroom! Thanks for all your wonderful help!
