I seem to have d/l a virus that keeps adding new programs to my desktop. I can no longer use IE, (although I've been told numerous times to use Firefox), as it freezes the computer. My computer is extremly slow as well. I have run Spybot and Ad-aware, and it removed things, but not whatever is causing the problem. McAfee once told me it removed win32 something or other, but apparently it did not solve the problem. Here is the hijackthis log:

Please be patient.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Hi

Download and Run SmitfraudFix
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

tried to do as suggested but after moving the program to my desktop and opening up the folder smitFraudFix there is nothing with a smitfraudfix.exe in it

Use this instead

If you already have Combofix, please delete that copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer.

If you can't download it from there, please try these 2 alternative sites:

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Click Start>Run copy/paste or type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall into the Run box and click OK.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Well I hope this is what you need. I had two issues while doing the combofix scan 1-McAfee would not shut down 2- My computer stopped and rebooted. Here are the two files anyway

Go to the Notepad window and click Edit > Paste

Name the file "CFScript.txt" (including the quotes)

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe



Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

With the exception of Internet Explorer, which is needed for the Kaspersky Scan, keep ALL programs closed until the scan is complete. This includes your anti-virus. Once you have installed the Scanner, and the updated definitions, you can disconnect from the Internet.Re-enable the anti-virus before reconnecting to the Internet.

unfortunately I cannot get Kaspersky to download the initial part with Combofix and the CF script went fine

Use this instead.


Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\ Terry L. Jones\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Post that log back here.

Dont forget the Combofix report and a new Hijackthis log.

OK tried that and it didn't work either-The following error message came up C:\ProgramFiles\Malwarebyte'sAnti-Malware\mbamext.dll Unable to register the DLL\OCX:RegSur32 failed with exit code 0x5. Click retry to tyr again,Ignore to proceed anyway (not recommended), or abort to cancel install. I tried again and that didn't work so I aborted. Removed the progam,downloaded it again, with the same results

How is the computer running now?

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

O21 - SSODL: apdqnxp - {A505B50C-42F7-4273-B54A-C776710DA50E} - (no file)


WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked exit HijackThis and reboot.



Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u5, and click Yes at the page warning. Under "Platform" select Windows, then check the box to accept the Licence Agreement. Click Yes at the second page warning before downloading the Offline file..


Now scan with HijackThis again and post the new log.

two things
1- When I went to remove the java applications I got an message that said-Unremovable Virus-Bogus Programs Appear-What the Tech-Mozilla Firefox. I ignored them and continued to remove the program anyway.
2-When I downloaded the new Java It sent it to my desktop-Do I install this now. I ran the Hijack This before installing it.
