Hello to everyone on the forum, thought Id start with a quick intro my names Paul and Im from/based in England. As with many people Im sure my first post is the reason I came here and I hope I can find osme help

I'll be totally honest as it pointless asking ofr help otherwise, I tried to download a patch/crack for MagicISO (I know I apologise and its not something I do on a regular basis promise!). I downloaded the crack from Ares (bad idea already Id imagine). After trying to use it I knew right away something wasnt right, after executing the exe file it seemed to extract a load of winrar files into the same directory that claimed to be patches for many different programs. When I looked into a couple of them their contents just seemed to be the main .exe file I originally ran??

Anyway to the spyware/trojan…. I immediately deleted all of the files, I then ran a full system scan with AVG and it picked the original files up as follows:

Trojan Horse Backdoor.Delf.AXM

The original file executed was called BTCPatcher.exe

AVG then removed two of the files and quarantined the other and after rebooting and doing another scan it seems to be ok as it isnt finding any viruses, trojans etc but I would just like to be 100% sure!

I believe from searching the forum this chap had the exact same problem :

HERE

Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

At least your honest.

My thoughts on Peer to Peer programs ?

Lose them all now. You can read on these and other forums just like them where people have been infected because of downloading things from the net. Cracks and serial numbers are probably number one on that list. Although not to many step up and say so as you did. At least you knew what you did wrong.
You got off easy this time as you seem to have only picked up some malware you seem to have a handle on.
We will do 2 scans to be sure nothing is left.

RUN HJT

HJT
Run hijackthis and choose scan only and place a check by the following lines if present.
Close all other windows and browsers except HJT before clicking on Fix Checked

Using Internet Explorer, please do a Kaspersky Online Scan

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
    • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure as follows:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
        • Extended
      • Scan Options:
        • Scan Archives
        • Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
    • Once the scan is complete, it will provide a report if your system is infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

    • Click save report as

      [external image: Posted Image]

    • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop and post it in your next reply

Hi again,

In response to the original post Ive always thought honesty is the best policy and cant stand it when people come on here almost demanding help and an answer and didnt want to sound like that

I have completed the 3 scans now as requested and some thing has been picked up sadly, what would be the best course of action to take now?

Many thanks

Scan process completed.
Everything is coming back fine.
Of the 2 things Kaspeskys found 1 is a false positive.
btwebcontrol.dll << False positive

The other is a risk tool .
SnadBoy Revelation V2
Did you add this program yourself ?

It's a program to see past protected passwords. If you have installed it it's OK. If you didn't you should remove it. Also remember if someone was to find this program on your computer all your passwords that windows remembers could be collected/compromised.
I would remove a program like this remembering I can reinstall it when/if I ever need it.

Other than that I think AVG did it's job for you and your fine.
Yea I added the snadboy app myself and have just uninstalled it from your advice. Does what you say cover all of the 3 viruses and 13 objects infected then?

Does what you say cover all of the 3 viruses and 13 objects infected then?

Yes if you look close alot of what it found had to do with snadboy program. The one other false positive and the rest are safely in a system restore point. Of which we will deal with now seeings I believe you to be malware free. Total 13 accounted for.

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :
This website also contains useful tips, and links to other resources and utilities.

Safe and Happy Surfing. :)
Thankyou so much for all your help Bob and being so friendly and helpful. Much appreciated and I hope to chat again in the future - but next time not over malware ;)
