HI

I have Verizon DSL since January 2007, on a new gateway pc with XP, is Vista ready, but not installed. It worked fine until Verizon offered to upgrade my security to Norton Anti Virus 2006. I get this message after boot up: "Auto protect experienced an unexpected error 0x000003ee" Then "3035,12" is displayed in the lower left corner of the box. This box offers a link to go to Symantec and run a fix tool to correct it. Which I have done over and over and over. I have un-installed Norton, downloaded another version and the message continues to appear. The first time I reinstalled Norton in December 2007, the error message did not display again until February. I have been contacting Verizon Support and the Yahoo Sub Team. They dial in to my pc, take over, and try to duplicate the error. It has not been successful at duplicating. If you go into Norton and turn on Auto Protect, it does not stay on. Sometimes rebooting 5 times works. The Yahoo subteam used a yxclean.exe program to remove all of the hidden files of Norton, downloaded Norton again, reinstalled, and the message appears. Since that time, Internet Explorer Ver 6 locks up, does not respond. I then downloaded Ver 7. That created another set of problems. I un-installed it after one week. I'm back to ver 6. When the pc reboots, it takes a minimum of 4 minutes. It sounds like it's scanning the entire drive and opening files. The Yahoo subteam now states that i have exhausted all the trouble shooting available. They feel it is now my hard drive and not Norton. I disagree. A friend recommended this forum for help. I just want to use the pc instead of fixing it all the time. Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Thanks for the reply!! I have started with your advice. I have deleted Zango, the ASK toolbar and my we search/assistant. I can not find 180 solutions. I don't even know what that is. I can't find it on the add\remove program window. It must be called something else. I have uninstalled Norton and spyware doctor. I have installed Trend Micro for viruses. It still takes too long to boot up. After all the above changes, I'm at 3 minutes to boot, and it still sounds like it scanning files. So I think this 180 solutions must be the problem. And I can't find it. H ave any ideas as to what it might be called?? Again, thanks! I appreciate it! dar
Don't worry about the 180 solutions. As I said uninstall only if there present. Just continue with the fix I wrote and post what I have asked for. Please do not start adding and removing programs until I have finished. This will only complicate things.
If it's all the same to you in the future just copy and past the contents of the logs in your reply. If I ask for a few logs feel free to use 2 posts or more if you need them. Makes it easier on me.

I use Firefox for our browser since IE6 "is not responding" during this meltdown. I haven't tried to use it IE yet. Not that brave, maybe tomorrow!! My husband hasn't been swearing
at the computer when I come home from work, so this is a great thing!!!

When I boot up, it takes about 2 minutes now, that's been cut in half. It still sounds like it's imploding files when it boots. It's not a quiet machine anymore. Could there still be sometning going happening in there??

At the beginning of this problem, I also had 72 processes running, I have been as low as 49 processes running.

The error "auto protect experienced an unexpected error: ox000003ee" was from Norton. Since I have uninstalled Norton, I no longer see the error message. It appears that this hard drive was being strangled by adware. Adware that Norton was supposed to protect this pc from getting. Doesn't look like Norton is a very good anti virus\spyware protector, now does it? After I installed Trend-Micro anti virus and ran a fulls system scan, it found a trojan, Worm_suhanad ac on this drive, and 3 occurances of PE_Generic, which is a virus, and something else called endprocess.exe and 188727.msi - all of which were removed. I am very unhappy with Norton and Verizon support on this issue. I am very pleased with the results I have recieved on this forum. Very pleased.

What is the next step?

dar
The next and hopefully last step will be to do an Online scan to see if anything is left.
So hold your breath this does require Internet explorer.
Actually don't hold your breath. This scan will take some time so be patient.

Using Internet Explorer, please do a Kaspersky Online Scan.
This scan will take some time so be patient.

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure as follows:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will provide a report if your system is infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop and post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
hi I ran the other scanner like you said. it found 2 viruses and 3 infected files. Looks like jibberish to me!! I can't make heads or tales out of it. You will of course. Great news ! [external image: Posted Image]

Your log now appears to be clean.

Lets do a few things to tidy up.
Please do these in the order I suggest!

Delete these folders if present.
Don't worry if there not there.

C:\Program Files\Zango

C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch

__________________________________

Navigate to this folder and delete it's contents.

C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\backups By clicking on
file>> select all>>delete.

___________________________________
Please create a 'clean' System Restore Point:
The reason for doing this is in case you need system restore you don't put back all we just took out.
Right click My Computer
Then Propeties then system restore
Place a check mark by turn off system restore
Click APPLY
Windows will give you a warning click yes
REBOOT

Now go right back to the same place and unchecksystem restore
Click APPLYand OK

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :
This website also contains useful tips, and links to other resources and utilities.

Safe and Happy Surfing. :)
HI wow - what a job this was!! I've done all you said to do, step by step, in the exact order you gave direction. I do have a question. That Persinsky online scan I did. it said I had 2 viruses and 3 infected objects. Do I still have them since this online scan only gave a report, it did not remove or disinfect? I'm worried. I have downloaded spyware blaster and did all the settings to the max. Do you have any idea as to what I did to contract these spywares? If knew what I had done in the past, I do not want to repeat it again! I want to thank you very, very much for helping me!! You have been a god send! I appreciate your help!! I really do! I was about to loose my religion!!! thank you so very much! Heaven must be missing an angel!! Dar

Everything looks good.
Alls Kaspersky found was some things we already new about and in system restore which we will handle now.

What Kaspersky had found were things already quarantined by other scanners. If there was something more to delete we would have been all over it.

You are safe for now I assure you.

Heaven must be missing an angel!!

That's about the best compliment I have received.
