This computer is about three weeks old. I need to know what I can delete and can't and make sure things are safe.

Hi UnknownUser, Your log appears to be clean of malware, that doesn't however guarantee your machine is clean. Do you have any reason to suspect infection and how is your computer behaving?
About a week ago I was redirected to a site and it said I had three problems with my computer. I forget what they were. I actually didn't see that happen though. I was away from my computer and came back and I was at a different site. I just closed out the site without doing what it suggested. Funny thing is this has only happened one time but it made me suspicious about whether or not there is a problem hidden somewhere. I'm glad my log file looks good though. Also I usually have like 50-55 running processes. On my older computer it rarely went above 35. Would it be a lot of trouble for me to try to figure out what I need and what I don't need?
Hi UnknownUser,

Based on what you've said and the look of your log there is no indication of infection. A single occurrence of a redirect when you weren't present at the machine could happen for any number of reasons and if it has not recurred then it's not likely to be a hijack. However, if you still have concerns we can do some further checks to look closer for malware - let me know what you would like to do.

If your old machine was XP then the running processes on Vista will look a bit different and there may be more of them.
Why do you want to reduce the number of running processes - are you concerned with the performance of your computer?

If you are having performance problems I recommend you post in the Microsoft Windows forum here at What the Tech to get more help - the experts there specialize in these issues and you are sure to get good advice.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed.
