My internet has been slowly lately and I noticed pop-ups from Browsing Advisor.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.


Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application. (If using Windows Vista, be sure to "Run As Administrator")
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process and, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.


Please also post a fresh HijackThis log after running the above tool.

This appears to have removed the malware from your HijackThis log. We should still check your entire system for any malware that may still be lurking on your system:

A. Please RUN HijackThis
  • Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.


B. I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner
  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply along with a fresh HijackYhis log.

I think we can go to the final clean up. But I noticed that Browsing Advisor is present in the Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. Should I just leave it alone?

Alright, I uninstalled it. EDIT: After I uninstalled it, I restarted my computer just to make sure it doesn't come back. Now, it takes 5-10 mins for toolbar/icons to appear.

We will do a check for missing/corrupt critical system files. You will need your original Windows Installation CD to perform this procedure.

1. Please go to Start -> Run -> type cmd and press Enter.

2. At the command prompt type sfc /scannow, making sure to put a space between the "c" and the slash, and then press Enter. This will run the System File Checker.

3. Follow the prompts, and insert your Windows installation CD if requested.

4. Then please REBOOT your computer.

5. Advise me of any progress made.

A. You are running both Spyware Doctor and SuperAntispyware at the same time. They represent a huge drain of available resources. One should not automatically start.


B. I have taken the following list from your previous HijackThis log and provide you with the explanations of what each one does. The explanation is a direct copy from the CastleCops database which we use. These are either designated as "Not required" or "User Preference". None are required to run. It is your decision to make. By disabling them, and I will be providing you with the necessary information on how to do that, you are not losing the program, you are just stopping it from starting up at every reboot and constantly running in the background the entire time you are using your computer. I keep very few items running at startup and start the manually when I want them. I do not like slow startups and shut downs. Here is the list:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install

Associated with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. However, this isn't necessary for the operation of your system

Windows Messenger utility. If you don\'t use Windows Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to Windows Messenger > Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts"


When you have decided which ones you do not want to run at startup, run HijackThis and place a checkmark beside the corresponding entry(ies). When all have been selected, close all windows and browsers, except for HijackThis, and click Fix Checked. Now exit the program and restart your computer. The startup speed will decrease according to the number of programs that you remove from the startup sequence.

I uninstalled spyware doctor the first time my startup speed slowed down since I figured that maybe the cause. I picked a total of 10 items and clicked the fix button and I restarted it. The startup speed is still the same. Is SuperAnitSpyware is still installed in my computer? I dont remember uninstalling it but I cannot find it.
