thanks for taking the time to have a look!
Hi Ally,

Your Java is out of date and is now a security risk. Please remove all versions of Java Runtime via Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs:
You can get the latest update (version 6 update 4) from here

Your log looks to be clean of malware, that doesn't guarantee your machine is clean but it's a good indication.
Have you had any alerts from your protection software and have you been performing regular scans?
:woot: ty for replying silver.I know that you can't guarantee it's clean with a quick look over but if it appears ok to you then thats good enough for me.I have been scanning and updating my security software on a regular basis since the last time I was here and have not received any warnings or infection alerts from my software.ty for advising me to update my java that is something i never check for :smack: before you close the thread can you give me some ideas as to good free security software to look at,I am not impressed with my firewall,it is zonealarm free but i use it because it is so simple(a bit like me  )can you recommend anything better than zonealarm that is easy to use? Also i am more concerned with trojans than with viruses e.g backdoor access to my pc can you recommend some good software —>free or not for the scanning and detection of hidden trojans and rootkits.I am running All the usual freebies like ad-aware and spybot(the best freebies IMO)but do you know of any others I should consider?……thanks again for takin the time to check my log I truly appreciate it  kind regards Ally.
Hi Ally

If you want to try another firewall, I suggest you try Comodo:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
But please make sure you remove Zone Alarm and reboot before installing it - having two running at the same time can cause serious problems!

From your log, it looks like you have these programs installed:
Avast Antivirus
Ad-Aware 2007
A-squared free
SpywareGuard
SiteHound

They are all good programs and if you use the scanners regularly you should be well protected. You could occasionally use an online scanner for a '2nd opinion' - such as Kaspersky's or ESET's

If you wish to check for rootkits, you can run F-Secure Blacklight occasionally. However, if this program shows anything, please post a thread here with the results.

I strongly recommend you install a good hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers.
For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.
Also: subscribe to the mailing list to get update notifications.

I also recommend you download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program.

Also, please take care when downloading programs. One of the easiest ways to be infected is to download freeware/shareware programs which come laden with malware - this includes allowing websites to install browser plug-ins or ActiveX controls. Before downloading, it is crucial to check whether the source is reputable. You can check using SiteHound and/or the SiteAdvisor website.

Please post back to let me know you have read this, and if you have any questions.
 thanks for all that great info! I'll check out everything you mentioned.Once again thanks for takin the time to help this is one of the best sites I have ever found.peace and best regards Ally. :yeah:
