Hello Juggy1028 and welcome to the What the Tech Forums

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE directly to your Desktop.

Note: If you already have ComboFix on your machine, please DELETE it from your desktop before downloading the newest version.

Go to [external image: Posted Image] -> Run -> copy/paste the following single line command in the runbox & click OK

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

[external image: Posted Image]
  • ComboFix will automatically start. Any monitoring programs will be shut down like your antivirus, antispyware programs for example.
  • ComboFix may restart your computer, this is normal.
  • When finished, it will produce a log, ComboFix.txt.
  • Please post ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Thanks for your quick response! I did as you said, but.. After combofix created the log file (after reboot) it never fully got back to windows, just a log file and a blank windows screen with my wallpaper in the background. I let it stay for 20mins, but it never recovered so I just logged off and back on. Here is the combofix log file and newly created hijackthis log file. Again, I appreciate the help.

Your system is infected with a Vundo trojan File infector. This infection renames executable files that run at startup and replaces them with infected copies. We will try to reverse the process. Be advised that there is a possibility that you may have to reinstall certain programs where a legitimate replacement file can not be found.

A. 1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.
2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Now drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

5. All your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) will be stopped.

[external image: Posted Image]

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. ComboFix will automatically REBOOT your machine when the KillAll:: switch is used..

7. Post the following logs/Reports:
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Fresh HijackThis log run after all the other tools have performed their cleanup.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

C. Using Internet Explorer, please do a Kaspersky Online Scan

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure as follows:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will provide a report if your system is infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

    [external image: Posted Image]

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop and post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
Ok, combofix and hijackthis log copied below, I'm doing the kaspersky online scan after this post (as I am following your instructions in the order you've given them to the T ;) )

I'll let you know the results of the kaspersky scan when it's done. Thanks!

I tried Kaspersky online scan, but at the accept/decline button at the very start, hitting the accept button has no results while hitting the decline button does work. I don't know if this is the result of the viruses or because of limited authority to run this scan; I noticed it said I needed to run as an admin and I know I had to do some work to get the control panel to reappear due to these viruses. Should I run this scan in safemode instead?
No luck, even in safemode using admin user login it gives me an error on page (little yellow ! at bottom left of IE browser) I am using IE 7.0, and I know it's not the website because my other computer can run it fine. The infected computer is a laptop that is not mine but a friend's that I am trying to help as this would be beyond her (and for the most part my) abilities ;)
Try this one:

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner
  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.

It brings me to a screen where the scan should commence, but there is no activity at that screen.. No java script window, no active x prompts.. I tried setting security to basicly off and allow for all active x activity but still no go.,. (i returned it afterwards)

Well that did not produce the results that I was hoping for. This is our next route. We will try to see what is stopping some of our tools.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
  • An additional text file, Extra.txt, will also be available (by default) in the following FOLDER, C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
  • Please go to that FOLDER and also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.
Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

What DSS will do:

  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed.

Post Logs:
  • DSS Scan Results: contents of 1) Main.txt and 2) Extra.txt
Ok, here are the two logs:

I think that you may also have some essential elements missing from the system. We will get rid of as many conflicts as possible as well as the malware before tackling the reat.

A. Using the Add/Remove Program module in your Control Panel, please UNINSTALL the following program (If present)

D. Now give Norton AvtiVirus a run and see if it picks anything up.
