Hello everyone, i have encountered a problem whereby my "System" folder would automatically appear whenever I switch on my computer without me doing anything. I don't know what caused it to happen, but many of my classmates have this same problem as me too. It's very annoying for me because I hate any kind of spyware / malware or virus lurking in my computer. Also, I am getting quite irritated at having to press the "Close" button everytime I boot up my computer. I do hope that you can fix it for me and hence, save me from my problem. I have scanned my computer with HijackThis v1991 and the log file has been uploaded. Thanks a lot and have a good day!

Generally, my computer is fine. However, my IE browser seems to be laggy; it takes quite some time to "read" the settings - i.e. the Homepage or Favourites. Also, sometimes, when I power up my computer, I can only see the desktop wallpaper but the start menu bar and all my shortcuts do not load. I would have to either restart my computer or either use Task Manager > Run > explorer.exe . =\
Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=System
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,System
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete this file if listed.
C:\WINDOWS\System.exe

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Yeah, I did as told. Now, the System file doesn't pop up anymore. Thanks a lot! You've been a great help.. ^_^ Anyway, I have bolded this line from the HijackThis log:

O23 - Service: SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) (MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe" -sSQLEXPRESS (file missing)

It says that the file is missing. What is this file supposed to be for and what would happen if I remove it?

Also, since I have uninstalled the PCPitstop programme, is it alright for me to remove these two lines?

Thanks a lot!
That'sa bug in HJT. The file isn't really missing and is required. Don't remove it.

The 2 O16's can be removed.
