Hi,

No problem, thanks for posting the log.

That file is an illegal Windows crack. Do you know if your Windows OS is valid?

Download and Run a Diagnostic Tool (MGADiag.exe) from here and save this to your desktop.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062
* Double-click on MGADiag.exe
* When the program has finished, click on the Validation tab and then click on Copy to Clipboard.
* Please post the results in your next reply.
i was in the understanding that it was (its a used computer) everything was fine for months then all of a sudden i get this trojan warning. i ran the MGA but it will not allow me to copy to anything. -laurie
When you click on the Copy key it will not appear to do anything. After clicking on it just right click in the comment window here and click paste. That should paste in the info. from the diagnostic.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE
  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
ok, i ran the combofix and it froze my computer at the end but it still saved a log, so here is the cf log and the hjt log

Well I know your Windows came back as genuine so I don't know why you would be playing with Windows cracks but this folder was created just a couple of days ago, along with the antiwpa.dll file.

2008-02-03 18:54 ——— d—–w C:\Program Files\Windows XP Home-Pro-2003 SP2 Crack

We are not supposed to help folks who do not have legit copies of Windows or are using cracks but since your Windows did come back legit I'll help. But if it's not then deleting these files and folders may mess you up here…

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\antiwpa.dll

Folder::
C:\Program Files\Windows XP Home-Pro-2003 SP2 Crack

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\Antiwpa]

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

[external image: Posted Image]

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.
Sorry for not replying sooner. everything seems to be running fine. not a problem. i took off my mcaffee and changed it with avast, as i heard that it is better. thanks for the help i really appreciate it!
Great…

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

Some other things you may want to consider and review when you get a chance.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Here are some free and evalutation versions that provide
better security than the Windows Firewall. Comodo
ZoneAlarm Firewall
Outpost Firewall
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some other available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Install Ad-Aware - Ad-Aware SE You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Install SpywareGuard - SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareGuard to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Use IESpy-Ad -
IESpy-Ad will block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. Instructions for set up and use can be found at the website.

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Here is a great link to a post here on securing your PC after an attack.
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?a…;page=How_did_I
wow, that's a lot of spyware "stuff" i understand the need for a firewall would you suggest that i download and install all of them? i have at the moment have superantispyware
I use all of them myself. Spybot and Adaware for occasional one time scans only, not real time. Spywareguard, SpywareBlast, and IESpyad are all very low overhead (do not really use any system resources) and add another layer of protection. Read up on the tutorials and decide for yourself what would be best… Hope that helps, Dave
