Hi marli and welcome to WTT :welcome: Can you tell us a little more please about the problem and what effect it is having on your computer? Also please tell us what scan you have done and from which site?…can you describe (briefly) the results? At this stage we do not want to see any log files (here on this subforum). but will let you know if this becomes necessary in the future. Regards paws

I read a post by a member LD Tate, on help my computer is slow—I found it very interesting and followed and fixed some things, like too many processess running etc. Then there was a free test from PC Pitstop. I thought it was really neat, and it told me a big report about all the old games etc still on my computer slowing it down. Said no viruses which is good. Then the crunch 39.99 to buy to get rid of it all. The only bad thing it said I should get rid of was limewire. The only thing that bothers me is the slowness of the computer, because when you uninstall things they are still there slowing everything down. Since running the scan I have gone from 47 processes to 28, but now I cannot do some things in Outlook Express that Icould do before such as eliminate all the headers and junk in an email before I forward them.
Hello Marli,

I am sorry you are having stress with your computer.

You say you have Limewire installed on your machine.

Limewire is the worst P2P program there is, (It is mainly the installations that are bundled with it that are the problem) swarming with viruses more than any other program… Of course, all P2P programs have viruses, but still, I haven't heard of a more notorious program….

Here is a quote from WTT Terms of Use.

The posting of links or references to warez or any other type of illegal software is strictly forbidden. By doing so you risk having your user account terminated without warning. We will NOT help anyone we suspect of having obtained their software illegally. We will not support or allow the discussion of any peer to peer (P2P) applications, except for their removal.

I suggest you uninstall Limewire. Read this LINK for more information. Also here is another opinion regarding Limewire

Then I would suggest you do the following:

System Restore Point facility

Go to:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
follow the onscreen directions.
Try to put your system back to a date before your troubles started.
see how you go.
Note 1 using this facility will normally preserve documents and data created by you in your My Documents folder, but some data files left on the desktop for example are at severe risk of being lost. For this reason it is recommended that before doing anything at all, you check that your back up/archive/copy of all your important data, files, settings, work, etc is 100% up to date accurate and reproducible, (even if your back up is even only a day or so out of date, its worth updating it now.)

Also don't forget to check that you have all your application Installation CD's to hand together with the product keys (including those for Windows itself)

Note 2 It is always important to have System Restore, protecting your boot drive (usually Drive C:) unless your trusted adviser specifically recommends turning it off for a short while.

then please follow this PCPitstop test below and do not click on any advertisement within your Pit Test Summary after you have done the test.

Please Run the PCPitstop Full Tests, here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com
Note: Vista users with UAC must first Right-click IE - Select "Run as Administrator"
Register and create a password
Accept the ActiveX component to allow your machine to run the Full Tests
Registering and accepting the ActiveX are both SAFE and FREE.
Full Tests is the first item in the left hand column of that page.

The Full Tests take less than 5 minutes for most machines.
Once you have your Results, please post the TechExpress Link back here into this thread for review.
TechExpress is the last item on the list in the yellow box in upper right area of any Results page.
Post the entire URL link information back here into this Forum thread.
Note: Vista users, please close your instance of IE "Running as Administrator" after you are finished reviewing your Results.

Caution: During the testing of Video Adapter, a variety of patterns, shapes, colors and text are "flashed" onto the users monitor screen. In the many thousands of daily uses of the PCPitstop Full Tests over several years, two individuals who suffer epilepsy experienced discomfort and temporary dizziness when viewing the flashing patterns.
If you know that you are susceptible to photo driven seizure, please look away from your screen during the Video Adapter testing sequence.
Note: The PCPitstop Full Tests Results is a free service, but is supported by various paid product advertisements for utilities that "could" remedy the OP's problem.
Since WTT is a "free-help" forum, we do not recommend or endorse purchase of automated utilities, and will assist you in manually correcting any problems and settings necessary to optimize your machine's performance. Ask your questions here. We'll help you walk through any necessary steps.

Please post back how you are progressing and include your pit test for us to help you.

kind regards, :D
