Yes, there is one that says Local Area Connection, right underneath it says connected and then underneath NVIDIA nforce Networking Controller and one that says 1394 Connection, underneath, Connected, underneath, 1394 Net Adapter.
Local Area Connection is the one you want.
Right click on Local Area Connection
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks
From trying to repair the LAN I get, cannot be done because IP address cannot be renewed, from 1394 I get, cannot repair because no TCP/IP enabled, yet I am connected to the internet.
Oops, I goofed, you are absolutely correct - the only thing I get when I try to repair the 1394 is the message that it cannot be done because there is no TCP/IP enabled. Should I try un-installing both and reinstalling?
CindyM,
The Network Connection that is labeld 1394 refers to a type of connection called FireWire.
The connector is flat like a USB connector, but much thinner and completely enclosed in plastic (no metal portion showing like a USB connector)
Most modern machines have this connection option, but few use it, probably because it requires Firewire connectors and hardware router that accomodates FireWire.
FireWire is "faster" than Ethernet CAT5 and CAT6 and faster than USB.
But you are probably getting all the connection speed that your Modem / Router can deliver, even though you do have quite a fast internet connection speed. We'd need additional information about your ISP, Modem/Router in order to investigate whether or not Firewire would improve your Internet Connection. But it is probably an non-issue.
Will you please run and post a fresh PCPitstop Full Test?
Will you please run and post a fresh report from CodeStuff Starters - Startups.
Save the Starters report as html and name the file Second Starters Report.html
Thanks
When you use the Bold feature on a URL link, the bolding "disables" the link and it cannot be "clicked"
Edit removed the bolding feature so that the URL is now "clickable"
Use the instructions I gave you earlier to Control Panel - Regional and Language - etc.
You must "add" a checkmark in the line that says "Turn off advanced text services"
You can also "disable" the following item via ControlStuff Starters - StartUps(tab) NvCplDaemon RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup Registry - Machine Run 1
Do you have any Languages loaded on your machine other than English (US)?
How many user accounts have your created on this machine, not counting the Default Administrator?
Do you have Guest Account disabled? <– recommended
Reboot your machine.
Open your Windows Configuration Utility Start - Run - (type)MSCONFIG - Enter
Click on StartUp(tab)
There will probably be quite a few items in the list.
But the only ones that should have a checkmark/tick in front of them would be:
Ad-Aware (may be two items)
zlclient
zl vsmon.exe (or some other reference to your ZoneAlarm Suite)
WinPatrol
Leave the above items "checkmarked" <— means they are Enabled
Please right down any other item that has a checkmark and report back to us in your next reply.

Your Video Performance is still "very low" compared to what you should be receiving.
You may or may not want to trouble with it, but I'd go to nVidia website and download the appropriate drive for your graphics device, if it was mine.

Maybe overnight tonight you could do a Defrag
If you've completed the above, maybe by tomorrow, please give us another fresh PCPitstop Test
In your next reply:
Report the items showing as checkmarked in MSCONFIG (other than the ones indicated from above)
Report back on status of Video Adapter driver update
Report on number of User Accounts……….. and do you see any "weird user accounts" that you are not familiar with?
—–Examples of weird user accounts: asp.net, Help Assistant, Support_38
Report what languages you may have loaded on your machine other than English (US)
Report whether you have Guest Account disabled or not.
