Hello guys, really sorry to be bothering you.. I swear I've exhausted all means before coming here to post up my log.

Recently, IE has been popping up ads even though I'm using Mozilla's Firefox as my main web browser.

These popups come from adtrgt.com, revenueloop.com and another one that pops up a porn video which I hastily close.

here's an example of one of the adtrgt.com pop ups

This appears in the address bar -> http://login.revenueloop.com/sw/6897/CD2/
and this is what is on the page.

the address bar shows this -> http://hopelessromantic.com/pop.php

and the content of the page is a youtube-like video interface of a paused Porno vid.

I see one very suspect entry here:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Antiwpa - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\antiwpa.dll

Description from one of our databases used to investigate HJT log entries: An illegal software crack used to bypass copy protection for Windows.

Have you any idea how this got there? You can have HJT fix the entry then delete the file.

I would advise you run the following diagnostic also:

Download and Run a Diagnostic Tool (MGADiag.exe) from here and save this to your desktop.

I've done what you told me to, and deleted antiwpa.dll from computer.
I really have no idea how that got there, my Windows is genuine and it came with a CD and everything! The people who sold the computer to me were pretty shady though.

Hi,

Are you still getting the pop ups? I'm not seeing anything else malicious in your HJT log, although that certainly doesn't mean you aren't infected, as HJT does not see everything by any means.

One other thing I'm seeing is it looks like you have 2 Antivirus programs, BitDefender and AVG. This can cause issues such as system slowdown, conflicts, errors, false positives, ect… I would advise you to remove one of them.

Let's also do a Spyware scan to see what is found.

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:

Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
It is essential that you get the update - keep trying until successful. (Note: If you have problems getting the update, you can download an installer for the full database from here (save it on your desktop). Once you have downloaded the installer, make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed and then double-click on avgas-signatures-full-current.exe to install the database).

Please set up the program as follows:

Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is… click active. This should now
change to inactive.
Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
Click on the Settings tab.
Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Reports - Select Do not automatically generate reports.
Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.

Close all open windows.

Please download ATF Cleaner here by Atribune. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only.
It does not require any installation and uses minimal system resources. It is set up to clean IE, FireFox and Opera, and detects the browsers you have and grays out the other(s).

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Recommend UNCHECKING COOKIES if you rely on system remembered passwords.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All EXCEPT FIREFOX SAVED PASSWORDS
Click the Empty Selected button.

We Now Need To Boot Into Safemode Now

Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine,
amount of memory, hard drives installed etc (BOOT SCREEEN).
At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

Run AVG

Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
Let the program scan your computer.
When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below:
- Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine
- Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button This must done before saving the report
- When the program has finished, it will display the message All actions have been applied.
- Then click the Save Scan Report button.
- Click the Save Report as button.
- Save the report to your Desktop.

Right-click the AVG Tray Icon and select Exit.
Now copy the report back to this topic.

Restart into normal mode and post the AVG Log and a new HJT Log. Also how are things now

As for how things are running at the moment,

After I fixed antiwpa.dll in HJT and deleted the file from my system, the pop-ups stopped.

But after performing what you told me to do, in safe mode and everything and on returning into the normal mode, and after turning on Firefox,

the pop-ups(they pop up in IE) have returned! *gasps*

Well that is interesting

…let's get a thorough virus scan with Kaspersky.

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * Click 'Accept' in the window that pops up.
* You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click on the information bar and select Install ActiveX Control if so. This may happen more than once. That is OK. You also may get a warning from your Windows Firewall. You can tell it to unblock.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save Report As…' button:
* Make sure it says Save as a text file - change it if not
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Hello Dave, I downloaded Combofix.exe, the first time from the 1st link you provided and this error message came up: 📎kmdexe.jpg causing the program to close itself. so I thought there might be a problem with the Combofix.exe downloaded from the first link, so I downloaded it again from the second link and this time it didn't prompt me about kmd.exe but it showed this: 📎swregcfexe.jpg before proceeding on to showing me a window that asks if I agree with the warranty and stuff. I decided not to proceed with it, as I've heard of what Combofix.exe can do, and decided to check with you first. Should I proceed? and about that AVG, lol. I'm sure you know where it's from but I didn't install that version. I just kept that setup file just in case. I only have the FREE version installed on my computer.

Yes, I think you should proceed. CF appears to be having issues with that second error you are seeing now, but I have seen that it will still run and produce a log after the error.

Okay it's this nasty stubborn core.cache.dsk file that's getting you. This will hopefully get it…let me know.

1. Please open Notepad

Click Start , then Run
Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Yes, good catch, I believe from what little info. on it I can find it is. And we'll need another script to kill the mountpoints for it. Let's make sure though, if the file is even still present.

It shows here…F:\sss.exe But you should do a full system search to see if there are any others.
