I went through a process of using SmitRem, SmitFraudFix, RogueRemover, CCleaner, and Hijackthis in an attempt to get rid of this problem, but it still is popping up when I go from site to site. I've also ran my Norton, Spybot, and AdAware and don't seem to have the problem fixed as of yet. The yellow bar warning says, "Warning: possible spyware or adware infection! Click here (blue link) to scan your computer for spyware and adware…" When I scroll over the link, the website it wants to direct me to is h ttp://protect.trustedantivirus.com/MTY4Nzc=/2/5993/ed=1/ex=1/h=10/zheltaya_hernya/ And I'm not if it's this same problem, but while visiting Major League Baseball's and Yahoo's websites, where the Java? advertisements are that usually pop up something new each time, several times I get semi-adult oriented pictures now, which I find hard to believe would be in either of those two websites advertising rotation. My computer knowledge is pretty limited, so I'll probably need pretty specific instructions to follow properly. Thank you.
Sorry, here is my current Hijackthis log:

I seem to be getting popup Explorer Windows, sometimes they open with one of the anti-spyware ads, sometimes not.

Seems to have affected my Java.

Desktop background is now red, and says "Your Privacy is in Danger!" "Download Privacy Protection Software Now", if I click anywhere buy an icon on the desktop it takes me to a website to purchase a software package to protect my computer.

Haven't seen the yellow warning bar with blue link at the top for a while, but not sure that is truly gone either.

Your help is appreciated, thank you.

Welcome to the forum, sorry for the delay , but replying to yourself took you out of the Zero reply category that we look for to work logs, no biggie , we have you now.

It looks like your infected with one of the Zlob family of trojans, do this please.

Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

ken545, Thank you for assisting me. I sort of wondered if I messed up with adding the replies. Here is the Smitfraud log. Not sure if it matters, but just for your information, I'm on US Eastern time, and will be gone now until 7pm this evening. Thank you again. jberry,

Not a problem with the replies, I am on eastern time as well. You are infected with Smitfraud :smack: This is what we need to do.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Post the SDfix log and a New HJT log please
ken545, here are those logs, and I noticed Kazaa is mentioned which I thought had been removed:

Hello,

Even though your log looks good after running SDfix, I am concerned about some hidden files it found . Lets run these scans.

Download VundoFix to your desktop

  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Let me see the Vundofix log, the Combofix log and a New HJT log please

Good Morining,

These are part of the Vundo infection, we need to delete them.

Please download OTMoveIt by OldTimer.

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ststv.bak1
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ststv.bak2
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ststv.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wvvwa.bak1

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Post the OtMoveIt log and let me see one last HJT log
Good morning, ken545, I hope it was okay that I downloaded OTMoveIt2. It appears that bleepingcomputer.com removed the former OTMoveIt. It had two sections, and I put these files in the "Paste Custom List of Files/Folders to Move".

[Custom Input]

< C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ststv.ini2 >

< C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wvvwa.bak1 >

jberry5, Your log looks fine  I am at work with very limited internet access at the moment ..even the rest of the afternoon..I will be back early evening. we can then update your Java and do a few more things to keep you secure. How are things running now??
ken545, I'm also at work right now. Last night it seemed to be working much much better. Before, I kept taking out my network cable when I wasn't using the internet to avoid all of the popups. I just left it in this morning, and didn't see any popups at lunch. I greatly appreciate all of your help with this.
Glad things are running better for you

Go to Start > Control Panel ( up at the top left , make sure your in Classic View ) and open Java.
Then look for a tab that says cache and choose clear cache.
( Newer version might have delete Temporary Internet files, delete them)
Do that for every Java icon, if there is more than one.

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future
