Please click on start, then run, and type msconfig and then press enter.
When the window opens click on the startup tab and make sure there are checkmarks in every entry.
Then press ok until you are out of the program. If it asks to reboot, do not reboot.

Now please create a new Hijackthis Log and post it as a reply.

Well Things look fine  One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus or spyware infection. There can be backups made in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus or spyware removal. To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account. 1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Check Turn off System Restore. Click Apply, and then click OK. 2. Reboot. 3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*. Click Apply, and then click OK.
Yes, but the Recovery Console was not it. The Windows version on the CD is older then what I have on my computer. Would it be safe to delete the exe. file that I placed on my desktop to install it?

The Windows version on the CD is older then what I have on my computer.

In that case I would keep the recovery console, but you can delete the .exe file.
Everything seems to working ok now. The only problem I'm having now is that when I tried to update Windows from their website I get an error message. Read and tried everything they said, but nothing has helped. Any suggestions?
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

To get the updates to re-appear and/or to be listed as available again. Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in:
del /q "%SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log. Then try again.

Can't download any updates and/or you receive an error message: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 wintrust.dll. If that doesn't help: Go to Start/Run and type in CMD. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

Then try the install again or run this script.

Correct the Cryptographic Service Error Message (Line 266)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Another issue: When you use the Windows Update scan feature, the scan quickly reaches 100%, and then displays the "There are no updates available at this time" message. To correct this:

Verify that your computer's date and time are accurate and that the Internet Explorer language option is not empty.

To check the language setting in Internet Explorer:

1. Click "Tools" and then choose "Internet Options"
2. Click the "Languages" button
3. Make sure at least one language is listed in the "Language Options" dialog.
