I have Windows XP Professional with Default Windows Firewall enabled and AVG Antivirus. I'm using Mozila Firefox. The add-on I've installed is Torbutton. To quicly enable and disable Tor by a click. My connection speed is 512kbps Cable Modem with a lynksis router hardwired to provide connection to the internet and still allow me to play my console system. I'm using a POP3 mail program. I have checked the box to have the relay set up. However I've been getting these warnings in my Tor's message log window. I downloaded the Vidalia Bundle from http://www.torproject.org/ which includes a Proxy. Anyway here are the warning messages I keep getting:

Note: The warnings about the OR and Dir ports I get frequently. The rest happened only the once. How do I correct this and what else would you suggest for added hack and security protection to prevent people from finding out where I live. Or damaging my computer. Here's the warnings:

Is anyone going to help me please? I've asked on many forums already and been ignored too. I want some help please.

Hi Toruser

Sorry to hear about your problem. But i am confident in, that people aren't ignoring you. Tor.Project is not something many people know about, so rather than giving bad advices about something they don't know about, its better to wait for someone who does. ;)

Without knowing much about Tor, one advice i can give however. You have to check step by step that you installed tor correctly and have the right settings.

Read this page about settings and how to install it correctly with windows. LINK

Have patience, maybe someone who isn't online right now, will come by and give you the answers or suggestions you need.

Kind regards Abydos
Thanks for responding and for the link. Another question, can people find out your ip or where you are by knowing your e-mail address? Thanks.

Hi again

The way I read this, correct me if i am wrong. Is that somehow you have given out your e-mail to someone/some place, and now you are worried if they could find your home address? Not by your email(to my knowledge), and your ip will only reveal from which district in a city or area it belongs. Another thing about ip's, is that they change every time you connect/disconnect from the net.. This is called dynamic ip address. The opposite is Static ip address which i doubt you have, unless you have an agreement with your ISP or if you are using Dynamic DNS service.

Kind regards Abydos :)
Hello toruser,

I am sorry you think that you have been ignored, :( that is not the case, we never ignore members posts here on WhatThetech.

Abydos is a new member and I concur with the comment that many do not know the answer to your query so one has to be patient and wait for the correct volunteer to come online.

Please understand we are all volunteers and give of our time when we can. We all have families, and other jobs that we go to and can only post when we are free to do so.

I do hope you have a successful post to help you, however I am not the one as I also do not know anything about Tor Project.

It is very important NOT to give your email address to anyone you do not know or trust as Yes it can be seen who you are and what your ISP is with the click of the mouse.

Would you be so kind to post the answer if you acquire it from another posting from another forum………thank you.

kind regards,

Never knew that about ips. How do I find out if I have a static or dynamic ip?

Hi again

Hmmm, thats a tough one, in the sense that ISP's are different from country to country. I suggest you try contact your ISP, either by phone or mail, and get an answer from them.

Another way is to connect to this site, take note of your ip. Reboot and go to the site once again. If your ip is different, your ip is dynamic.

IP INFO

If your ip is static, and you want a dynamic. Contact your ISP, and tell them. Normally they do this free of charge, but i guess it can be different with some providers, not to mention countries.

Kind regards Abydos :)
the "someone knowing of my e-mail address" is sorta the problem I'm having. Wouldn't want to say on a forum since posts can be seen in a search engine search. I would like to pm what's going on, but when I click send messagae under a member's profile it says you are not allowed to use this feature. So I take it that since I'm a new member I have to use the forum for a while before I can send pms correct? And where would I see my ip when going to this site?
Hi Toruser The ip will displayed in big numbers, kinda hard to miss ^_^ . There is no harm done to visit this site. Many webpages uses scripts within their page to see ip's. As of now, ip is not considered personnal. Kind regards Abydos
Not sure what log numbmers are or where to find that in my Firefox browser. The message I get when I try to click send message on any member of this forum it says " The error returned was: You are not allowed to use the messenger feature on this board ". Is that because I'm a new member or what? I appreciate that people have taken time to help me with this. I just hope someone comes along that knows tor real good and can help with the log warnings in Tor.
Hello toruser,

Once you have posted 10 posts your My Controls feature will be automatically activated for you to send messages on WTT.

kind regards,
Hi again Toruser :D

I've found something that may shed some light on your Tor problems.

I would like you to read through 3.3, 3.4 and 4.1 (4.1 mentions your clock, as seen in yours logs in the first post)

There is alot of info in this FAQ.

I would recommend you pay strict attention to 3.4. As it mentions which ports (ORports and DIRports) you need to open in your firewall settings, in order for Tor to run effectively at a minimum level. Be sure that those ports are open for Tor.

Use the FAQ, to answer any other questions you might have.

I would like to help with a more competent answer, but I simply don't know that much about Tor.
Have patience, and i am sure someone will reply with a more complete and compotent answer than i can give.

Kind regards Abydos
