Hi,

I have followed the instructions on the pin "Welcome New Members" I would be grateful if anyone could help me in getting rid of adds that show up on my pc in a browser window (even when I am not on the internet). The pop ups are on internet explorer even though I use firefox?

I have scanned my laptop using symantec, pest patrol and adaware se, and removed pests? but am still getting pop ups. My laptop is also running really slow (not sure if this is to do with the pop ups)

I have posted the log from the Hijackthis scan as instructed.

Again I am grateful for any help.

Thanks

hi, ok first we will use hjt, then boot directly into safe mode. copy/paste the safe mode part into notepad and save it so you can find it in safe mode. HJT: not sure if pest patrol has a real time protection built in to it of not. most likely there would be a icon by the clock. if so best to disable it before using hjt. start HJT, click "Do a system scan only" put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click "fix checked". Hi Shelf life,

Thank you for your help.

I followed your instructions the best i could.

I couldn't find "spads.dll" to delete? so I am not sure that I have fully done it right?

Once I rebooted my Laptop I have only had 1 pop up add from dcads so far and the Bleeping noise has stopped.

Here is the new HJT log:

Hi Shelf Life, I don't know if this makes a difference, however I have checked my laptop today and the adds that I am getting don't seem to be on Explorer anymore but on Mozilla and the adds are not popping up as frequent as before? Many Thanks Leemac7
hi,

the adds that I am getting don't seem to be on Explorer anymore but on Mozilla and the adds are not popping up as frequent as before

shouldn't be getting any popups. lets see what combofix can dig up:

Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

as a precaution, before using combofix:
Close any open windows
Close/disable anti virus and any antimalware programs that have a real time component by exiting/disabling the software using the icon by the clock. They could possibly interfere with the running of ComboFix. after using combofix restart what you disabled.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Hi Again,

I have had my laptop on for 15min before running combo fix and not had any pop ups yet…Whooo!

hi,

not had any pop ups yet…Whooo!

ok good. one last thing to do:

Click Start, then Run and type Notepad and click OK.

Copy/paste the text in the code box below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dcads-remove.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dcads_sidebar_uninstall.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\superiorads-uninst.exe

Name the notepad file CFScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
locate the CFScript you just saved and the combofix icon on the desktop
drag the CFScript right on top of the combofix icon.
combofix will run.
please post the new combofix log in reply.

Heres hoping

Cheers again

Leemac7
Hi Shelf Life, Loged on for about 15min there and I got 1 pop up from adds by Dcads? It is better than before when I was getting them every five min, however they are still showing up. Thanks leemac7
hi,

Cr*p!!

ok lets try this:
delete combofix like this:

start>run and type in combofix /u
there is a space after the "x" and before the /
it will remove the current combofix.

download and run the latest version here:

Download combofix from one of these links and save it to Desktop:

http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

as a precaution, before using combofix:
Close any open windows
Close/disable anti virus and any antimalware programs that might have real time protection running. Usually this can be done by clicking on the icons by the clock and selecting exit etc. This is done to prevent any possible interference while Combofix is running. After combofix is done you can restart them.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
————————————————–
also do a online scan here:

ESET online scanner:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

uses Internet Explorer only
check "YES" to accept terms
click start button
allow the ActiveX component to install
click the start button. the Scanner will update.
do not check both "Remove found threats" and "Scan unwanted applications" (thats so we can see if it finds anything)
click scan
when done you can find the scan log at:C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt

please copy/paste that log in next reply.

————————————-
one more thing;
navigate to the C\WINDOWS dir and see if you can find these:
QTFont.qfn
QTFont.for

if so, go to this website below browse for the files and upload them one by one using the submit button
please post the results here. they will be checked out by 12 or 15 malware scanners.

shelf life
Hi Shelf Life,

Not had any pop ups today so far?

I followed your instructions the best I could, however when I went to scan using ESET I got the following message "Error: update failed (200)" so I couldn't carry out the scan ?

Here are the results from ComboFix and Virus Total

also I have just noticed that my date on my pc and log file is one day ahead? should be 16/01 ?
