Hi, my comp got this trojan horse Dropper.Agent.GIT. I have used AVG to scan it once and heal some files. The following is the log file. I would appreciate some help. Thank you very much.

Hello 9josh and welcome to the What the Tech Forums

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem. This is a relatively new variant of an infection that is inundating the malware forums and its removal can often prove somewhat problematic. Please follow my instructions to the letter and not use this machine except for cleanup purposes until we succeed in eradicating all signs of infection.

A. Please provide a list of uninstallable programs.

To Provide a List of Installed Programs

Run HijackThis.
Click Config>>Miscellaneous Tools>>Open Uninstall Manager>>Save List
Save list to Desktop
Copy the Notepad list and Paste it into this thread.

B. Some trojans have a way of masking their presence from the HijackThis program when they recognize the name. I think that this is the case here because there are no 02 or 020 entries visible in your log.

Please locate the following file C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
Next, right click on the file and from the popup menu that appears, choose the RENAME option and rename the file Killer.exe.

From now on, when I ask you to start HijackThis, just click on the Killer.exe file.

C. Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
First, physically disconnect your computer from the internet.
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix.
Now you may reconnect your machine to the internet and post the logs

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

This one is living up to its reputation, I believe. There are an abnormal amount amount of startup registry entries with files that ComboFix cannot find, yet the tool does not seem to have deleted any replacement malware files.

A. We first want to show all hidden files:

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the browse button and navigate to the files listed below in bold, then click Submit. You will only be able to have one file scanned at a time.

This would mean that a file infector, different from the one we were treating has taken over your system and this one can not be cured. To make sure, please tell me to what file this scan pertains and proceed as follows:

Please use the Internet Explorer browser, and do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner
First, choose "Global" from the drop down list at the top of the page.
Click Yes, when prompted to install its ActiveX component.

This is going to even take longer. I need you to resubmit one of the previous files for analysis. There are so many inconsistencies in your logs/reports that I need further confirmation. Based upon the results of the next analysis, I may have to call in one of my colleagues for an opinion.

A. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
- Go to start>control panel>folder options>view
- Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
- Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
- Close the window with ok
Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Userfile Sharing Server] usnserv.exe
Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.
Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
- Restart the computer.
- As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
- Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
- Press Enter.
Using Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E), locate the following file and DELETE it (if still present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\usnserv.exe<==File
Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE
Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.

B. Please go to: VirusTotal

On the page you'll find a "Browse" button.
Next to the browse button you'll see a box to enter text.
Please copy/paste the following in BOLD:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\2306550C1F.sys
Then click the "Send File " button just below.
This will scan the file. Please be patient.
Once scanned, copy and paste the results in your next reply.

Make sure you have a header of some king with the report.

I dont think AVG and Omnipass are working. Sometimes when i switch on my computer, the explorer will not load, i have to open it from the task manager. I am not sure whether this is because my comp is affected. thanks for your help.

Going by your logs, most od your startup programs should be out of commission. That is what I was referring to when i talked about something nasty going on. I need two logs in a row that say the same thing:

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
Click the Start button.
Now click the Install button.
Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.

Things are starting to show up in your logs. It does not look too good. I am going to have you first uninstall your current copy of ComboFix, then clean out your temporary files then download and run an updated copy of ComboFix in the hope that it will show us what is really going on.

A. First Uninstall ComboFix

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

B. Once part A is finished, please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All

Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

I had a good friend of mine look in on this and we think that another approach may reveal more.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
